My personal opinion for that is to take the turner out, or even just a rail or 2 if possible to make room for the shipped eggs to sit off to the side. Keep the shipped eggs in an egg carton so they are upright large end up and do not move them. Then you can either let the other rails in the turner keep turning the non shipped eggs or if you remove the turner just lay them on there sides and hand turn, or put them in cartons also and tilt them back and forth 3 times a day.

I hope that made sense.
Hi, Brinsea's auto-turner doesn't roll the eggs, it just tilts eggs slowly until they get to a 45 degree angle (over a period of 30 minutes) and then tilts them back straight and then in 45 degrees opposite direction.

But I am just wondering if not turning the egg is not harmful for the eggs with bad air-sacs? why is it harmful for eggs with good air-sacs? Or is it that we are picking lesser of the two evils?

Ive been told not to turn my shipped eggs....even though im turning them 3 times a day. Thy have detatched air cells, and turning one this morning I found that its seeping
Toss that weeper! I wouldn't trust it.
I have a girl who is full on broody. She just started to set this weekend and I didn't want to start her with eggs until I was sure she was staying put. She is young and this will be her first brood but I am going to let her keep her clutch today. I realize I am out of the window for the Hatch a long but I plan to tag in just to chat and get advice as I have only had one other broody hatch. :frow
Ooh, she's lovely! Is she a Game?
:lau So how many did you get? When I first started reading I was so nervous to continue, I thought for sure you were working up to your neighbors dog got all your chickens. So glad it turns out your just a chick-a-holic lol.
X2!

Is she an Icelandic? Whatever she is, she is very pretty!

Thank You ALL for the warm welcome to the group!
Our residents are not newbies when it come to chickens, most of them raised during the depression of the 1930's, had chickens as children and truly are taken back to special place in time each time we hatch chicks. here is an excerpt from our up coming newsletter:

4th Annual Easter Hatch
continued from pg. 1

We will also have some fun along the way.
All the eggs have been numbered so that we can guess which egg hatches first. Each resident can fill out one card (next to the incubator) Write your name, and the number you think will hatch first and place it in the box provided. There will be prizes for the first 3 eggs choosen to hatch.

After all the chicks are hatched we will have our “ Chick Naming” contest. On a different card provided write your name and your best “Chicken Name” and place it in the box provided. The same number cards will be drawn randomly as chicks in the brooder box. Winners will have their pictures taken with chick that they named!

GOOD LUCK!

My new total is 35. Sorry. I told myself I wouldn't, but I did. Now I have an egg eater. 2 yesterday and 1 today. I suspect a turkey. I wish they'd start laying so they'd mind their own business. Now to figure out who and get it stopped, one way or another.
I have a egg eater too a leghorn she in a wire dog kennel for now.

Absolutely wonderful!!! This is such an amazing thing you all are doing for the residents. And the contests are so cute. I am sure they love the entire experience.

Do you all have a flock of chickens at the nursing home that the residents can be around and collect eggs from?

I want to go to a retirement home like yours! It would just have to be a bit more south for me though.
What a great program for your residents to look forward to.

I personally have a flock at home and bring in the eggs and incubator for our hatch. Some of you may know me as my BYC member name " Ridgeline Hens" I' am the Assistant Executive Director at our Community. Best Wishes Phil.

It is also important to mention that most of the eggs we hatch are donated to me to use for this purpose. This year Terri donated some beautiful Black Copper Maran and Olive Easter Eggers to our cause. Thank You Terri!

That is so sweet. My mother is 90 yo and still lives on her own, but her eyes light up whenever we talk about hatching chicks. A couple of Sundays ago, the power went out at our house, so I packed up my incubator to plug it in in the the car and at church while we were there. By the time we got to my mom's to pick her up for church, her power was back on, so I left the incubator there while we were at church. She was so disappointed that they were not due for a few more days and wouldn't hatch while they were there. I guess it's a good thing that I put so many in for the Easter HAL so maybe she can watch some hatch while she is here for Easter dinner (my SFH are usually a day late).
