Cool, so this is how awesome I am with incubation: Candled my eggs on day 5, and the results are:

10 quitters
5 clears
4 that may still be alive, but could have died last night. Can't tell yet.

:( :( :(

Seriously, I think I am cursed. I have done everything I can to carefully turn the incubator three times a day, keep the humidity around 30% (more of a dry hatch) and keep the temps around 99.5

Are you positive they quit Red? At 5 days they can all vary quite a bit in how they look--I had some that I thought were clear and left in just in case, and sll but one has veins now. I really don't chuck any eggs until after day 12-14

It's like a soap opera!

This is the best thing that ever happened to incubation! Can't wait for the next installment!!!!!
I agree it's amazing. I heard it read in an old radio voice in my head. . . .
OMG! The old radio voice makes it even better!!!!!!!!

I am glad you have all enjoyed the posting. When my hens decided to go broody at just the right time, I thought this would be a fun way to break up all the waiting. Patience can be a hard thing to master.

Update: My lone Delaware chick has been accepted by his older hatch mates with only minimal eye and toe pecking!

This is the best group of chicks I've ever had - they rarely make anything other than happy noises, they aren't fighting, no pasty butt so far, they love the EcoGlow, and they're obviously very inclusive. Lol. Oh and they don't fuss when I put them in the box while I change the paper towels in the brooder (bathtub). And get this -
If I tap on the ground, they all come running to my finger!

What breed do you work with? Is this always your results? I have heard of certain breeds having bad hatch rates in general. Have you had your flock state tested for any diseases?

I work with Icelandics. I do usually have good start rates with incubation, but I tend to lose quite a few or all of the embryos before lockdown. To my knowledge, however, I am the only one who has this problem, so I think it is me, and not the birds. I have had mutt eggs sired by my roos hatch very well and be totally healthy.

Pretty sure. I will try and get pictures tonight after work. I left them all in there for now.

Oh hooray! This makes me happy :) Cute little Dellie baby and his new family :)

I'm worried now too. Usually by day 5 I can see plenty of development in my white and cream eggs but as of now I only see one that's developing. :/ hopefully some of the others just aren't growing so fast. Need to sit on my hands for a couple more days.

If all you are seeing is clear, I would still leave them in for a few days. My problems is that I can see definite blood rings with mine. But clears still have a chance of developing. Sorry to make you worry.

I am in a writing mood this morning and decided to enter the shorty story contest. I would love any critiques about it. If you want to to read it It is on page 3 or 4 (I think) for contest #4.
