This really works. I've only tried it with chicken eggs though. My wife was pickling our extra quail eggs last summer, she didn't enjoy peeling them though.

Candled my 29 Dominique eggs last night. Only 4 were clear. 15 I saw wigglers. 10 were too dark for me to see very well, not the egg shell but where the chick is forming. My first time incubating, first time candling. Some of the ones with wrigglers had been in the fridge 2 weeks. Rooster moved to the country without me Feb 25th. Using an LG 9300 dry, with a USB powered external case fan, plugged into a spare USB wall plug. It's in a little stand that angles it back some, and I have it pointed at the back wall. Temps holding fairly steady throughout. So far. Knock on wood.
Fill a bowl with ice and then fill with water. Let sit for 3-5 min and stick the thermometer in. Wait a couple minutes and it should read 32`. Mine is like that and they lock them in that casing without making sure they are accurate. I figured out how off mine was and then stuck a tiny piece of tape right where i needed my temp to be.
I'll be having my first hatch out of it on Wednesday. It's a fun toy. I am really mad about not having decent instructions and can't find any anywhere. So far the temp has been right on and recovers quickly. The built in candler works great. The humidity is a big question mark to me. I've had it set at 30 but it seems to stay around 40. Maybe my house is 40%, who knows. Tomorrow I'll put it up to 60 and see how accurate it is. I don't know how to turn off the turner, or maybe I did. I can't seem to find out where to set the day counter to zero.
It's a nice little incubator for 10 eggs , I started with 14, and now have 11 in there . The 3 others were no growth.
I'd like to see how others like it.
I may have it really easy. I bought my 1602N from my favorite feed store for around $50... ok, my brother bought it for me for my birthday almost 4 years ago. The point is, it was the cheapest one I could find and I fell in love.... wait, was that my point? I give up.![]()
This is the kind of thing I grew up with. Most might consider me too young to know about them, but my dad was relentless about classic rock.
If the fan is not running at all, increase the temperature to 101.5 and incubate like a still air incubator.Gah! I hope my Easter eggs aren't fried! I have eggs stacked in my incubator and my fan quit! I'd put them in my hatcher but it's temp doesn't hold steady. I don't know what to do but cross my fingers. :-(
Quote: I've combined chicks of varying ages. The key is to give the new hatched ones a week to get their legs under them.
Beautiful!

It could be a difference in shell color/thickness and/or you weren't letting as much light through in the way you were holding them. At any rate, great candling pictures!
