I have been with you guys all along, just not able to post much! Weather has been great and I am out painting with my horse :) As in she paints, I mix colors....

So...I started the HAL with 49 eggs and am now down to 24....
Out of the 18 shipped bantam Ameraucanas, I have 4 still alive.
9 out of 15 Seramas. These were mine but I was setting some old eggs...
4 out of 7 runner ducks. These are being handled by the silkie broodies and they started arguing over them.
And, 7 out of 9 Guinea eggs set.

Other than the duck eggs, everything else is in my r-com incubator that I use for parrots. I'm hand turning though, because of those shipped eggs with wonky aircells. I still keep them upright and just tip them back and forth for turning. Guinea and Serama eggs are laying on their sides.

are the eggs warm in this method or do they need to be chilled overnight? I'm looking for a method that I can use when I cook eggs and want to eat them warm for breakfast.

I run water over them until the water is cool..let them sit for about 3 mins. in real cool water, then go to town. I used a pint size jar. I'm tellin ya..I did 10 eggs, in like 5 mins. I was so surprised that it worked. But it did!

I just got on here to say that the 8oz jar was too small. My very few pint jars are full at the moment but I'll be trying them next.
Do you put the lid on or use your hand to cover the jar? I think I'll use a lid so I am not stuck at the sink.

Just my hand, it only takes about 15 seconds of shaking. You can tell when that big end pops out.

I've been using this flashlight for candling, and it works great! I got mine at TSC on clearance for $1.99.

I found those at a Lowe's. So maybe any hardware type store would have something like it? I have a couple of EE and marans eggs that were too dark to see through, but I didn't have to struggle as much to hold my hands JUST so.

If its the 9300 or 10300 I would check the temp every 15 mins.
Seems like days 15-21 the eggs start producing heat. (I may be crazy in that line of thinking). The temp really goes crazy then

You're not crazy! My temps seem to climb on their own around the last week too. It's so frustrating but at the same time, I look at it as healthy babies growing in there :)
