Yeah. I'm thinking something else killed the hen. Was your dog very aggressive toward the hen?

I don't know what makes you think that, but I assure you that it was the dog. He's done it before.

Sorry for the loss if you hen.

As for the dog, bad doggy. Actually I'd have done away with it if it were mine. I cannot stand a chicken killing dog. I know though folks get attached to their dogs so it can be a bit if a decision to make on that.

Levi (the dog) has been with us for *11 years.* We've only had chickens for 2 years. Before we moved to the country, he happily hunted groundhog, possum, and birds in our tiny city yard. I'm not going to put him down or get rid of him for not understanding that he can't eat chickens. He's old, he has a heart condition, and he was with us first. My dog is a pet. My chickens are not. There is no decision.

Well bad day for me. I'm down to 16 eggs from 49, and only 1 out of my 9 turkey eggs is among them. It has a severely saddled air cell, so I'm not holding out hope. But the worst is that my dog got out this morning- we still have no idea how, because what dog jumps a fence for the first time at age 11? At some point during the day he killed our favorite hen. She's the only one who gets out of the run to go forage. Today was her last day foraging and laying us a beautiful dark brown egg. Skittles will be missed.

I'm so sorry.

just curious where is @Sally Sunshine this time?
Sally had some things going on in her life, and was not able to help this year.

Quote: Ditto. If the temperature spike wasn't too long, the eggs could still be fine.

Just so you know the actual thread lists it as contest #14 instead of 15. (I know it's 15, but I figure it may cause confusion at some point.)

Ok so to make room for some more eggs coming next week...do you think it would be safe to move the (shipped) eggs that have been upright in my brinsea, to the cooler Bator and have them laying on their sides? ( I plan on hatching in the coolerbator this year) All the air cells are attached.....Going to candle tonight to verify and possibly clear up more room since I kind of skimped on the day 10 candling. Today is day14 for the eggs in question.

I just trust my brinsea way more with getting shipped eggs started, more hands off the better IMO. So hopefully my plan will work here.
