and i'm getting a 10 egg incubator soon
Not sure this has been answered yet..catching up! Yes, they have this hatch a long every yr. You will love it. You will get answers here while incubating. In the meantime, if you have any questions, look around on BYC. I see you are pretty new to the site, but there is place you can type in questions, then many places will pop up..pick which one looks to be what you are looking for.
To answer your question here...lock down is when we have hit a certain day..some like 18, some like 19, where you .. stop..turning the eggs..set up the humidity, and wait..the most stressful time.

The chick is now turning, absorbing yolk and blood, and will pip, zip and hatch .. hopefully, by day 21.

My hatch day is Friday. I just put the eggs on lockdown last night. But I have three pips this morning. My temperature ran a little high so they may hatch early if I didn't fry them.

There..three pips!! I'm sure they are fine, if they are pipping, they want out!

So I was thinking the other night about power outtages and such while incubating eggs and what I would do and I have a question. Has anyone ever tried to use something like:

in the bator, around the perimeter not on the eggs as I know these get burning hot. I would think they are similar in concept to the hand warmers used in the shipping boxes during cold weather shipping.

Some of these have medication in it..pretty strong smell... some don't..the hand warmers can work, but putting a blanket over the bator has worked best for me. If I have room in there, and nice warm bottle will work too.

Wow, congrats! When did you set?

Locked down my eggs this morning. Pulled another 8 clears for a total of 14 that had not developed at all. Total of 28 on lock down.

Is it wrong that I am already planning to load up the incubator again?
