HELP!! My two chicks are pecking each other!! I know they are trying to establish "pecking order" but the younger one actually started to bleed so we split them up. They almost look like they are battling, they stand up all tall and stare each other down. I really need help because I don't want to keep them seperate. I tried some feather sexing and they look like females. I really am worried. Do I do anything for Thin Mints bleeding? It is on the beak. Please help me!!

I think it's a good idea to separate or at least remove the aggressive ones to protect the others from injury. I had a similar situation, 1 just couldn't stand the others quietly eating - I picked up & held the aggressive chick, which not only gave the others a break, but seemed to calm the sassy one & they're all getting along better now. Good luck!!

I do hold the aggressive one and they are separate by cage wires so they can see each other. They continuously try to get to each other and peck at each other through the cage.

does anyone know what this is? I thought it was a pip last night because there was only a little dot of liquid but over the night it foamed and got all sticky. I wiped some off with a tissue. Is it a dud or can I do anything? Or is it actually hatching?!

Yikes I hope they don't hurt themselves ! Wonder what would happen if you separated them with something they can't see thru like cardboard but can still hear each other. I'll be interested in others' ideas, too. All's peaceful with my chicks this morning. They're Sultans, though, which is a quieter breed to start with.

I'll try cardboard until anymore ideas pop up.

I took the oozing egg out because I heard that they could "expload" and I am going to crack it open OUTSIDE to see what is inside.

Set 29 eggs on the 14th around 1:53 PM. Tossed 3 on day 14. Marked 2 as questionable but locked them down as part of the 26 that made it to lockdown. First chick hatched on Friday, April 3 around 7 AM. 8 had hatched by the time I went to bed that night. By the time IK went to bed on Saturday night I only had 7 that had not hatched. After the end of Sunday night I have 5 eggs that haven't hatched ( 2 of which are the 2 I marked as quitters). I of the hatchers on Sunday is still trying to finish absorbing the rest of it's yolk & may or may not make it as it had become shrink wrapped, but, as of right now it is doing well.
So I have 21 that hatched out of 29 that were set! 72% hatch rate. 9 of the 12 Black Penedesenca eggs hatched.
Good night!

To those of you that sell your chicks... What would you charge for barnyard mixes? I had a Facebook friend comment that she had lost several chicks from the batch she bought at the local fleet store. I commented to her that if she didn't mind barnyard mixes, I had 30 chicks in the brooder and 31 more eggs in the incubator. She and another person commented back to me that they are interested and inquired about price. They would be straight run since I'm not sure I can accurately sex them...

If nothing else, I figure its a good way to enable my hatching addiction!!
