They are my fiestiest hens too. My other hens when I check under them for eggs they just fake at pecking me. The silver partridge really get angry. They have drawn blood before. I don't back off when they do it is why they make me bleed from time to time. The roo got very aggressive with me this winter and I had to teach him a lesson in humiliation. No harm done just paraded around with him in my arms in front of the other chickens. That usually does the trick. They are so easy to catch when they try to spur. Just grab them while they are in mid air. It s so funny to see their reaction when they realize they've been caught. lol
Me too!! Not that I know what they are. The girl I got the eggs from said they could be brown leghorns.I had 2 hatch with stripes.
I had my box turtle for 22 years. Only live things she ate were nightcrawlers.@Serenderpity: that is very interesting. I had box turtles once that would happily eat the hatchlings of whatever happened to fall out of the nest into their pen. Nowadays, I feed them baby mice. BUT, I share your circumstance in having enough roosters at the moment. How do you sex the babies, or are they sex linked? I could no doubt use a few snakes around here to help with the rodent population, but I don't imagine boas would survive the Rocky Mountain cold. When I serve pinkies for dinner, the chicks, the turtles, and the bearded dragon all eat from the same plate; it is an amazing sight. Much of what I know about raising chickens - and it isn't a whole lot - I learned from raising lizards and turtles. I am happy you don't waste your male babies.
2 weeks with the cough? Ugh!I have 84 eggs in the incubator and about 60 are due in exactly 1 week.

Everyone here had it and we've been better for a few days. I had it the worst. It started with a fairly bad cough and sore throat but after about 3 days I had a high fever for 4 days and very fatigued. It lasted almost a month in all but the first two weeks were cough madness.
I have had whatever it is for weeks. went to doctor got prednisone. It went away and I could breath again , that horrible cough went away. But once it went off the meds it came back. went though another round of the drugs, it went away again. It is trying to come back again just not as bad. My cough was so bad I thought I'd have to go to the hospital. Glad it is mellowing out. I feel for you ....

And this is why I don't have snakes. I like snakes, love handling them, the bigger the better- but they'd end up starving because I am an animal lover and couldn't feed them (well, unless I was feeding them tarantulas or spiders are anything like that!)

Well I can keep one roster, we don't have one, and I would like to have one.Are you trying to keep pullets only? Also, a lot of breeds do not look the same when they are fully feathered.
