I was chatting online with a buddy on sunday, just saying how tricky I was finding it sourcing goose eggs locally. to my surprise, today postie arrived with a box of 8 embden eggs.
omg, like oh my gosh (spoken like a true furby), they are so extremely big that they are larger than my chick that hatched 2-3 weeks ago.
they fit in the bator but I cannot use the auto turner because of their size, I have even had to dismantle the turning arm else it would have spiked the eggs; so I guess a bit of manual turning is in order.
I really wouldn't be surprised if a tyrannosaurus popped out, they are the biggest fowl eggs I have ever seen.
so we are settling in right now ready for kick off tomorrow.
I can't wait to see them chasing the postman and delivery drivers down the driveway.
as an aside, I also had a 2500 psi briggs and Stratton pressure washer arrive today. it has an engine bigger than my first motorbike and is one hell of a beast, if you need one it is well worth considering.

I am posting here because I have gotten great advice from the people on this thread, if it should be moved, please let me know.
healthy ducklings dying when transferred to new home I hatched out 6 baby ducklings for my friends, who live 30 minutes away, I still have two at my house, but gave away the other four, to two people, in pairs. One of the friends said the ducklings were healthy and active until one morning when he found both dead, the other friend said that one she had is very healthy and the other died once she got it home. The two I have still are healthy and active, is the death from the transfers? Or something else? Can I prevent this from happening again? I gave the babies away when they were 5 days old. Thank you in advance

How strange...were they caring for theirs the same as you do? I know next to nothing about ducklings but I wonder if since you'd had them for 5 days and your two are still well that it may have been human error...sad whatever the reason. Hope the three that are still alive continue to do well.

Were the other people you sent the ducklings being sure to give the ducklings water anytime feed was offered? If they weren't the ducklings may have choked. Not saying that is what happened but it is a possibility.

I am starting with turkey eggs next week followed by the next with chicken eggs to have a hatch together

I am having a strange problem. As of today 7 hens are broody. Everyday there seems to be another one. It is like a sickness! The others are not laying well at all. Today i got 16 eggs from 50 hens. Is any of this normal?
