Any of y'all ever had a day 7 egg that has development but no apparent air cell? I have a FBMC egg that's fairly dark and I can see the shadow of the embryo and the tippy top of the egg, where the air cell should be. The other four FBMC eggs look normal.
i just candled a few like that; some of them had no development at all, but when I saw movement in one (these were a few days older), I got out my high power flashlight to check it out. Sure enough there were not so obvious air cells. Over half the eggs in my first two incubations of this year failed to develop or make it to lockdown. Some were almost 2 weeks old when I set them, but not all. I didn't check for fertility, and just settled on them having gotten too cold, as I wasn't the most diligent about collecting them often. Hope my current set does better. Good luck on YOUR hatch. Laurie in a colorado blizzard

Anyone else vaccinating the chicks they hatch against Mareks?

I did with my last 3 hatches, but I need to order some more vaccine. I hate the way it is marketed only for big hatcheries, but if you are careful, you can subdivide the "powdered" part from the liquid diluent and get 2 to 3 uses out of it.

I do. I've never trusted dividing it though. I've skipped a few batches here and there over the years but just try to fill the bator when I hatch or coordinate chick arrivals as close as possible. It's all pretty easy. I have a condition and my hands shake way too bad to administer so DH does that part while I sterilize and pinch the skin.
