I think I am going to need some eggs for the hatch along. Hardly any of my girls are laying right now. I think i got 2 eggs today and they were cold. Anyone know where I can get some eggs????

Ok, so I think I'm in! I have no idea what I'm doing or how, but the thought of hatching my own chicks is very intriguing!! I just need to get the incubator.... My girls are 4-EE, 3-RIR, 2-BSL, a brown leghorn. My roos are a bantam cochin MIX and an EE MIX so no clue what chicks will look like when they hatch! Guess that's part of the fun.

LOL! Dang it to the sticky notes. AND they don't stick so great to the styrobator. Haha....Writing hatch dates on them is a great idea. They are so covered in sticky notes. Haha I have written collection dates but never thought of writing set dates or hatch dates. Love the chart idea and numbering...Thanks for the Idea Somanyhats!

I just write one number on each of my eggs. Say I'm seeing every Monday. The first Monday, all eggs are labeled with a "1" always on the fat side so I can see easy which are which. The next Monday, each are labled with a "2" and so on. Then I have a calender. I write set date set 1, lockdown set 1, hatch date set 1 and the same for each number. Works great for me

with my eggs when i hatch i put the x and o on them and then the batches i put1 for the first 2nd for second and so on then i mark the batches hatch dates and lockdowns on my calendar

SoManyHats..have I told you that I lived in Winchester VA. back in the 60's?   And, that I bet it has changed big time!?  That is in fact, where my love for chickens began.   In VA.  but actually in Stephen City.  Not much to that town back then.  She had a nice piece of land.  I loved collecting those eggs, and, watching the mother hens and chicks.    

I think you have mentioned that before. Winchester is a really nice place still, but getting bigger.

How many eggs does it hold?

1368 Quail Eggs (set and hatch 250 per week), 354 pheasant eggs, 270 chicken eggs, 198 turkey or duck eggs, and 36-45 larger eggs such as goose, peafowl, and emu.

within a week there will be the first test run of 60 chicken eggs...going to compare it to the coolerbator that i made...and see the hatch rate differences...

So I'm doing a test hatch in my new bator. I set the eggs over a couple of days. Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning. Should I hatch in another bator or do you think the ones set on Sunday can handle the environment of lock down for an extra couple days?

I plan to hatch. This will be my first time. Probably be hatching my own maybe Polish and Cochin or Delaware. We'll see.
