There's just too many posts to post to , LOL.
It's right, the hardest thing is to weigh the eggs before you start. I'll bookmark that chart.

Now, I told my husband today that I'm getting eggs. He was not happy. I told him I never count silkies as chickens, like if someone asks me how many chickens I have, I don't count the silkies, LOL. I asked him if he want to know why I'm getting more. It's sad kind of so I'll not burden anyone with it.

But he says don't I have enough chickens? (29). I told him silkies don't count but he says they do.
So, do I have enough?

no way! My mom told me today that I have too many after she asked how many I have now. I told her 60 but she doesn't understand the concept of chicken math. Only about 29 of them actually count!

29???
I think I have about 60 and that's not counting the ones in the basement (hospital, and a couple groups of chicks).
My hubby's getting soft though. I catch him talking to the ones in the basement sometimes and he's even replaced a couple spilled waters.

I watched a hawk fly away with one of my OEGB's and it broke my heart. I went outside about a half hour later and there she was hopping back from up the road. No feathers on one wing and most of her tail feathers were gone but no real injuries. I tried to bring her in and put her in the chicken hospital but she wouldn't have it. She went back outside about an hour later and acted completely normal. Her feathers grew back and she's fine now.
Wow, what an amazing little hen! So glad to hear of a happy ending!

Oh no, my rooster Dixon died

Only 29, that's not bad at all. I agree with you, Silkies don't count as chickens. Tell him they are tribbles.

My DH doesn't care how many I have, just that I don't ask him to build me any more coops.

One of these bad boys took out 6 of my cats one year. (Barn/farm cats). Kept finding their furs laying in random places. Guess he just liked the meat. :( I haven't told my hubby I have eggs arriving yet. He WILL NOT be happy. He hates chickens. I finally got him to like a few last year but the fox took all them out so he's back to hating them again. :/ ... maybe I should fix him a nice dinner before I tell him. Lol

Tribbles! Love it! My DH is the same way, he hasn't heard ...another coop in a long while. Just, let's make this end a separate end, and now..I want a door on the other side of the run so the chickens can go out on the other side of a fence we have up, and not right in the back yard. He says, ok. He did!

Oh my DH was outside one night this past summer and an opossum walked just about right up to him

creepy.

I have also seen a fisher cat run through my front yard

and coyotes in my back woods

we hve lots more predators but those are what we have seen with our own eyes.

We have seen stray cats, stray dogs, skunks, opossums, raccoons & hawks. We know we have coyote & fox in the area as well.
The other evening I went out to lock up the chickens and there was an opossum in the composter. It just turned & looked at me.

LOL. Talk about Hubby. He wanted geese. We got 2 pair of chicks last may. They grew up. Now is breeding season. They come after me. I can't say I'm afraid of them. He says to me last week am I looking around for their eggs? I said no, you go look, I've got enough to keep me busy. He has a fit insinuating he's a couch potato. I think he realizes I mean business now. He's been dumping and refilling their pool, putting them in at night, and getting eggs. Boy o Boy. If you want something at least do some of the work!

Cynthia, you sure are sneaky! I may learn something.
