What red? Really. That's great. So happy for you!
Thank you :)
Yes, but is a baby 0 days old? The baby is some portion of a day old. Another way to look at it is birthday. If the first day did not count, then each year you would subtract a day from your birth day. I was born on Jan 8th and that is always my birthday. It will not be January 7th next year. If you set eggs at 8pm on Thursday, then 21 days will be on Thursday at 8pm three weeks later. Well there we have it. incubation time is seen differently which does not surprise me--since we had a big internet sensation about colors on a dress recently.:gig Regardless of when you calculate it, candle on day 7. That is when you want to check air cell development. You really will not see much until day 5 and only with thin shelled white eggs.
Thank you for the egg chart, Ron!

You may laugh at my excel approasch but it took me a while to change from a set day counter to a how many days till lockdown approach. Excel or an app really helps with that.

Since I'm setting turkeys and chickens, I want to make sure the lockdown starts the same day. At first I was just thinking in terms of setting dates. I had to completly redo it and count backwards from lockdown / hatch date. So now instead of thinking that these eggs are on day 7 or 10 or how ever many ever days past setting day its time to candle, I try to think these eggs are so many days from lockdown. Eggs might get to stay in a bit longer as now I start tossing a week before lockdown but it helps to make sure I don't have birds hatching when another set of eggs are needing to go into lockdown.

I really don't know how some people get away with setting eggs day after day and not have a really really long lockdown with chicks needing out while other eggs are still pipping.

ibuprofen or alive can cause too much bleeding during a surgery. Try some caffeine. it is in some headache meds. Another option is calcium rich milk to help induce sleep along with a turkey sandwich.

I have one of these same bators I just bought a month ago, and the middle of it where the heat radiates getsa little too warm and the outside along the bottom is 10!!! degrees lower. BAH!!! It's making me so mad. I think it is goofed up and I did not keep my receipt. Using it as a hatcher today and huddling the eggs together in the middle. Crossies they are ok.

I am with you!! I don't like the temp discrepancies. I am afraid to make any adjustments. :(
Good luck with your hatching!

That is good to know. They are in there and have been for 24 hours....the barn cats will be happy if they don't develop

There are 17 Icelandic eggs and 2 silkie eggs in there also so I should get something! I am hoping to have a few broodies before hatch day so they can finish them off for me!
My always broody Australorp has been laying non-stop for 45 days. I think and hope she goes broody in a week or two. I saw a Brahma sit in the nest for 3 hrs and never found an egg later, so hoping she does it too and I dont have to brood any chicks.
