Do you have any pictures of the bands on the chicks?

Sorry it took a bit to find any pics showing the bands, and they aren't very good...

I guess Im gonna have to be the safety department.
FOR THOSE OF YOU SETTING EGGS:
1) COFFEE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SLEEP.
2) 21 DAYS WITHOUT SLEEP WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR OVERALL HATCH RATE.
3) CAFFEINE MAKES U HYPER...I wake up 300 posts behind some mornings. Tell your uncle happy birthday by the way, and Im glad your granny finally milked her first goat while bungee jumping. Sorry about your neighbors dog wrecking that skateboarder. He probably had it coming anyway.
4) STOP BLINDING YOUR INFANT BABIES. You know who you are...candling every 15 minutes..how would you like if someone lit you up every 15 minutes with a couple million candlepower light. Looking at a dang heartbeat.
Lol.

Says the closet candler, lol... :D
Bama, I have a nice young trio of Welsummers with nowhere to put 'em, I'd sell them to you but I refuse to drive to AL again... last time we went to Birmingham we got rearended in a bad accident and guy took off... :/

Thats super cool of u to offer. Im getting a gangsta bator in May. Im really gonna be wanting hatching eggs. I have a mile long wish list.(especially Rons arkansas blues).
Sorry about your bad experience in Alabama. We dont usually bother with all that fancy car insurance crap. The accident never happened if we are parked behind our house spraying the engine off with the hose

Yeah, we got that in the accident, lol... :p

Just finished our breeder pens, so should have nice group of pures and projects going, when you get your bator hit me up if you want any eggs... gonna have at least Sulmtalers, CCL's, true Ameraucanas, and OEGB's at least... :)

I have my eggs in cartons and doing the tilt the Little Giant thing, instead of opening it and turning the eggs. How high up do I have to prop the side for the eggs to be tilted enough?

Optimal is 45°, I think, but 30° will work... I turn the cartons upside down and tilt each egg, gets a good 45° angle without raising the eggs too close to heat element... just my .02, lol... :)

:/My temp seems to be "stuck" at 98.6. Is that going to affect the incubation process? It raises a few points now and then, but seems to stay at 37 Celsius most often. The thermometer is also at the top of the bator, and not egg level

When mine does that I put 2 bath towels over it. I fold them lenghth-wise and lay one over the top of the lid and one over the bottom of the lid. That way I can adjust how much is covered to get the right temp. It that makes any sense. I move the towel away from the middle a little at a time till I get the temp I want.

A little late, but just set 8 little eggs in my Brinsea Mini Advance. 2 are blue project eggs from silkie crosses, and the rest are going to be silkies/sizzles/showgirls!

All eggs from @chiqita~

I was always told that since heat always rises,
tilting the whole 'bator creates uneven heat which equals uneven incubation. (?)
Can anyone debunk that with a success story?

Purple, huh? Yeah, it is supposed to be black. Maybe the black gene got diluted by an interloper somewhere back in its line. I've seen a lot of pics of Silkies that didn't look like your typical Silkie in the chicken shows, though. Is it pretty with purple skin? I am glad you rescued it and that it serves as your alarm. Now YOU will have to serve as its guardian for life.

It's hard to see with this lighting, but she's pretty purple. I will have to get a better picture later lol.

There is very few chickens in need of a rescue here. I'm not even sure there is battery hen farms in Michigan. But I do what I can for chickens I hear of :)
