I really don't know how some people get away with setting eggs day after day and not have a really really long lockdown with chicks needing out while other eggs are still pipping.
People that have staggered hatches, usually have multiple incubators. 1 for incubating and 1 for hatching.

I guess Im gonna have to be the safety department.
FOR THOSE OF YOU SETTING EGGS:
1) COFFEE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SLEEP.
2) 21 DAYS WITHOUT SLEEP WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR OVERALL HATCH RATE.
3) CAFFEINE MAKES U HYPER...I wake up 300 posts behind some mornings. Tell your uncle happy birthday by the way, and Im glad your granny finally milked her first goat while bungee jumping. Sorry about your neighbors dog wrecking that skateboarder. He probably had it coming anyway.
4) STOP BLINDING YOUR INFANT BABIES. You know who you are...candling every 15 minutes..how would you like if someone lit you up every 15 minutes with a couple million candlepower light. Looking at a dang heartbeat.
Lol.

Hatching isn't supposed to be this stressful. I rarely candle, don't worry about humidity until the last 3 days, hatch in cartons, etc. The birds have been doing this a lot longer than we have.

I was always told that since heat always rises,
tilting the whole 'bator creates uneven heat which equals uneven incubation. (?)
Can anyone debunk that with a success story?
Unless you have a fan, you're likely to have warmer areas and cooler areas. BUT, if you have water in your incubator and you tilt it, the water will come out the overflow holes.

Hello Everyone
We are a Retirement Community in Wisconsin. with around 60 full time residents that love to hatch baby chicks every Easter.

This year we have set 29 eggs. to hatch on Easter Morning or so..........

That is awesome! Welcome to BYC. Do you have your own flock of chickens at the retirement home?

OK I'm ready: 47 eggs! 13 EEs 8 OEs 13 SS 11 SS mixes (amber links, australorp, and FBMC under SS roo). I tested my thermometers in ice water: the one on top SEEMED accurate, and the big one on the side was 4 degrees low. So I should be ok until my brinsea gets here Tuesday. Right? Does everything look ok? I've never incubated this many eggs.
I added three more! SO MY NEW TOTAL IS 50 EGGS. 15 EEs 8 OEs 14 SS 13 SS mixes (Updated to show corrected breakdown. My original was off by two.)

Today is an awesome day!! My broody hen has finally settled and joined the HAL and my kiddos have put together a homemade incubator and warmed it up to join also. Do you know what that means?

Incubator Wars!!

Contestant #1 is Mom with a store bought Little Giant still air incubator with an automatic turner, 26 eggs.

Contestant #2 is a group of 3 young men ages 11, 9, and 5 with their homemade incubator that the eggs will have to be hand turned, 3 eggs, one for each of them.

Contestant #3 is Speckles, a young hen in the midst of her first laying season, she will be doing double duty as turner and incubator, 8 eggs.

The eggs are all in and warming up, folks. This is going to be an exciting match up to see if these 37 developing eggs will all hatch, and which of our three incubators will have the most success. Keep your eyes peeled and get your votes in. We are just beginning this HAL and anything can happen!
