Everything is new, but I have used the Brinsea Octagon 20 before so all that set-up is correct. I did a test run on the 40 for 24 hrs before connecting the humidity pump and everything was working fine.

I will let it run overnight and see what happens.

I had set the humidity at 70% on the incubator to test it but when I tried to put the pump on a higher level, it dumped all the water in the bator and humidity went up to 85%. At that point I had decided to let it run overnight. In the morning humidity was still around 80% and time to set the eggs was approaching so I thought will its no longer possible to test it for high humidity at this point. We will deal with it at lockdown. So I blotted some water that had collected in the channels and left the incubator open for an hr & set the humidity at 40%. Actual humidity at that point had gone down to 53%.

That's when I set the eggs, after setting the eggs, it went up by a little bit (56%) but since then it has been slowly going down. After 42 hrs, it is down to 47%. I know its still high but I don't think it matters that much at this point. At this rate it should be down to 40 in a day and a half. I will report how the pump works at that point. I will lower humidity down to 35% whether or not pump is working.

I have my eggs in cartons and doing the tilt the Little Giant thing, instead of opening it and turning the eggs. How high up do I have to prop the side for the eggs to be tilted enough?
I was always told that since heat always rises, tilting the whole 'bator creates uneven heat which equals uneven incubation. (?) Can anyone debunk that with a success story?
I have actually done this several times. Mostly with quail since I can't trust myself not to drop them. It's been said, but it's not the greatest idea to do this with water in the Wells.
I don't have an exact number for humidity in a dry hatch, but right now my air is about 20% humidity. When I added just a tiny bit of water to the incubator, it went to 60% humidity. That seemed really high, so I didn't add any more- but this morning it is back down to 20%.
I have ordered another hygrometer from Amazon that should be in tomorrow- is 20% way too low even for dry hatch?
Should I use a damp sponge instead maybe?

Petco's hydrometers work pretty well. I got one a few weeks ago that's spot on. The one I had before that that got lost read 3% low. Not bad for $6. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the RH of the room you're hatching in is about 10% higher than it is in the incubator. The RH in my hatching room is 50% and it's 40% in the incubator. I don't add any water until lockdown. If I do my humidity goes out of control.
