I just went to check for eggs in the coop when I found two of my hens stuck outside the coop. I opened up the door and they bolted inside and jumped into the nest boxes. After a couple minutes of getting everything situated they both, simultaniously, "dropped" their eggs. They would have gotten situated faster but one of the girls kept trying to steal all the "dummy" eggs from each of the nest boxes for herself. She managed to stuff 10 of these under her before laying her own egg. Silly hen. I didn't add these new eggs to any of the incubators though. DH thinks he is being unfairly deprived of eggs for his belly. LOL!

Well, I was going to set quail eggs today, but I'm too tired. More like worn out. I had to pick up all the sticks in the yard and then mow the yard.

I was lucky to remember to turn my eggs.

I know it has been posted but I cant seem to be find it among the million post lol. If incubation temps run a little high or low? Most (of the ton I feel like I have) show 99.5-100 in the 1588 and the still air (grrr) been sitting about 100.6. I just got in a new thermometer and at egg level in both it shows 100.5. Which is good with still air, but would be high in bator 1588 compared to the others. Have I made that completely confusing? Basically, Thermometers are making me crazy! What are the consequences for a little high or low?

I was always told that since heat always rises,
tilting the whole 'bator creates uneven heat which equals uneven incubation. (?)
Can anyone debunk that with a success story?
I wondered about that. Heat rising. I have a fan in it, but it's not installed. Every time I have to tilt the incubator it slides down to the lowest side/corner. But I have 3 thermometers in there and they're all measuring about the same. 99.5 to 100. Since 18 of my 29 eggs have been fridged, and some for 2 wks, my hatch rate probably won't be very good anyway. At least, I'll be very surprised if it is.

Running a little high= early hatch and possible a few problems like chicks getting stuck in the shell and leg problems. Running a little low= late hatch and possible the same problems.

One more question? I have one bator full of shipped eggs. I have about half that the air cells appeared lose ( i new bare with me), meaning they did not roll, but some appear to giggle or move slightly. I did let them set 24 hours on arrival not even looking after I unpacked. Figured they been through enough moving. After 24 hours set them in bator turner and let set another 24 hours. Then started turning them. I have candled about 12 today, just spot checking. Most don,t seem to be moving, but It appears a few still seem to have a slight giggle or movement. I know its just let them incubate, but any suggestions? I believe after everything I have read, I just wanna lay them down for the hatch, and the rest is up to the good Lord? Except, maybe for an assisted hatch which I have never done.

All of the ones with moving cells have development. Its day 4, should I stop movement for a bit more?
