You all candle too much! I haven't touched mine.
I am just doing my part to mimic the cool down period each day that the hen leaves the nest to eat, drink and attend to her business.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Howdy, we live in the dead center of NH. I am a newby. Nice to know others one here are experiencing the same I am. Frost bite took over my guineas ties and legs.

My chickens received frost bite on their combs. My poor and amazing welsummer roo is loosing his points on his comb. I know you guys received a lot of snow this year. I am not looking forward to more tomorrow.

But it might be the last fresh snow before the muddy melt down.

I know how you feel. My cocks and cockerels also got frostbite. They look pitiful without their gorgeous combs :( I need to do some coop modifications so I hopefully wont have frostbite going on again.

I am really looking forward to warmer weather, even the muddy meltdown doesn't sound so bad right about now. Where abouts in NH are you? Im in a small town in the southern area called Derry.

I think the battery fairy needs to visit you lot!
The battery fairy usually visits our house about 2 weeks after christmas and targets the games with annoying music, repetitive phrases or the other wonderful toys that relatives buy but don't have to live with
Those toys are as bad / annoying as some of the videos that the children watch to learn their letters or numbers. Clearly i want the children to have fun and learn but wow, the singing ABC pooh bear from my parents is super loud and obnoxious. In case you want one for your house, the only picture I could find online is at ebay.

Dang, disappear for a couple of days and I can't count how many pages have happened.

I am happy to see you have all done fine without me.

Now excuse me while I go add more sap to the boiling pan. I shall come up again for air sometime.

This maple syrup making is kind of fun.

I enjoy maple syrup candy but the hours and moisture needed to obtain it from sap, not my thing.
Tallow converting is slow going but at least there is not a drastic amount of steam filling my house.

The cool down cycle is from day 8 to day 18.

Good try though!

Ok, since I marked all my eggs on the days I set them in the bator, I have officially set 13 mixed eggs. :weee I am excited to be apart! :)

Yes, I am familiar with Derry. We live in the middle of the lakes region, New Hampton. I love the barring on the chickens in your picture. The lighter one looks beautiful. We have a welsummer roo, an americana pure roo, a bunch of barred rock hens, a couple white rocks, a rir, a couple light red ones that lay dark dark eggs and a few black mixed hens with hair on their legs. As for my guineas...poor things. I got them to keep the ticks away. Maybe I can hatch out some eggs when they start coming in.

For pecan syrup you only need some whole pecans to make the syrup.

You just crack a double handful open and fill a pot with water crack into the nuts and drop into the water and boil till the water is the dark red of the inside of the pecans. *Note: strain the nuts and shells out of the water when the liquid has the right color and should smell like pecans*
Then for every cup of fluid you add 2 & 1/2 cups sugar and boil at a slow rolling boil till it is as thick as syrup pour into jars and can in a water batch canner for 10 min. it's as easy as jam.

Forgot to mention to strain the liquid. lol
