Does construction noise affect hatching eggs? The house behind our home was demolished on Friday and today they started digging the ground. The equipment is heavy and noisy and so are the dumpster trucks that are picking up the debris. Because of the noise none of my hens laid today and are huddling in the coop. I am worried it will have a detrimental effect on the hatching eggs in the incubator. Has anyone read anything about it?

P.S. When they dig, even my floor shakes so its pretty heavy and noisy equipment.

vibration can be bad for eggs in the incubator but mostly during the first week and if they were shipped. Hens can be quite rough with eggs so local eggs will do better with the vibrations.

The hens will be fine but the stress can put them off from laying for up to a week sometimes--lightening and big storms can do that too.

Moved the first 77 to the hatcher. I set the remaining 35 the next day after these. Do tomorrow they'll go into the hatcher.

I think you are going to have a lot of baby chicks soon. God bless your hatch. :)

My incubation goes into lockdown tomorrow.

I just found out that I have another request for me to hatch chicks for a friend. The fun continues. :)

Also, looks like I am going to need to include duck eggs in my next incubation. There is a nest full of duck eggs in my back yard and no one seems to be interested in sitting on them. I need one of my ducks to step up to the bat (so to speak) and sit on them. Does anyone know a way to entice ducks to sit? :/

I think I have two ducks sitting across the lake. But I don't know where their nests are exactly.

Lockdown! I have broodies and they have been "locked down" since they got their eggs.

It is amazing how strong their little legs and wings can be when they don't want you to look at the eggs.

It's true, their super parent strength comes right out.
I go into lock down tomorrow. Here we go, more questions coming up.

Remember everyone..condensation on those windows during lock down is a big...NO NO. Some get confused because of their thermometers' reading wrong..they keep adding sponges, glasses of water, rags..what ever they can to get those numbers up on that thing. If you are having problems at this point..lock down..remember if you see even a little bit of moisture collecting on the windows, then get some of that stuff out of there. :) And then, get a better thermometer for the next time.
