I have a question about upping the humidity. I tried just adding more water to the bottom of the incubator, however, it never seems to get above about 47%. Does anyone have other methods they have used??
i put a keurig coffee container in there full of water. seems to work better than putting water in the troughs IMO

edited to add **EMPTY containers :)

so day 18 is today for the eggs i set the 14th...does this mean seramas go on lockdown too if they were set the 16th?

and i set another egg the 15th, so it on day 17 now...would it be ok just to move it to lockdown too?

I know a few folks that stop turning even sooner, a few days sooner, and have great hatches. If you need to have them with the others, go for it.

Really ron? Man, that just scares me to look at it like that. What about the oxygen in there for them?

She said it is a strawberry basket and has vents in the top and the bottom.

I have hatched in those for the past two years and the did just fine. Adding foam shelf liner in the bottom helps though.

My first-time broody is doing well with her five eggs. I think she'll stick.

Broody folk: how do you check the eggs without pestering the hen. Impossible? Is lifting the hen the same as lifting the bator lid? I want to monitor her hatching babies, but I don't want to fiddle her to death. Just walk away and let Nature handle it?

Locked down my eggs this morning. Pulled another 8 clears for a total of 14 that had not developed at all. Total of 28 on lock down.

Is it wrong that I am already planning to load up the incubator again?

OMG,,,,,, that thought crossed my head as I collected eggs this morning...

It's a strawberry container so it has holes around the bottom edges and top edges. The styrofoam egg cartons are cut out on the bottom. Is that enough?

I wanted to put in another container to separate breeds but the other container was a little taller and was touching the heating element

It will be fine.

Taking the top off would defeat the purpose--chicks would jump out.
I had the same issue and my wife said, why don't you cut 1 inch off the bottom. I don't know why I did not think of that but thats what I will be doing.

Holy Cow!!  My incubator is at work, so I coudln't watch it all night.  I came in this morning to 13 (!!!!) chicks out, 1 more zipped, and 5 more pipped!!!!  Happy birthday, little ones!  :jumpy

Wow! Congrats!

I'm now up to 4 hatched and one zipping. And the rest should hatch by Thursday/Friday.

Yay! :)

If it's wrong, I'm not sure I want to be right ;)

Thanks! I have 6 in that container. I put a styrofoam egg carton top with holes poked through down the middidle sandwiched between eggs in cartons and the strawberry container hoping to get some separation between breeds...
