That's usually what I do; if there are a handfull of already active ones, I wait until a moment it looks safe, get everything ready, quickly open it up, remove the chicks, used shells if they're also taking up too much room, and close it up again.
It seems to work out fine.
Good luck!
What if there are a few pips?

Question?

Its starting to get pretty rambunctious in there and now my humidity is getting to high. Starting to see moisture on the window. I have two hatching that are exposed, AFTER (?) they hatch would it be a good time to grab a many dry ones as i can out to lower the humidity? they are crawling over and sometime laying on the ones that are trying to hatch?
I would leave them, personally. My incubator gets condensation, but I've never seen a chick with problems because of it.

I could not stand it so at 6 am I put them in LD before my first cuppa coffee.

I still haven't, Im a procrastinator, I did look at them though, they still look like eggs. Where is that bumper sticker that posted a few pages back lol

I just did a quick candling though. I had one incubator running too cool and there development was behind. I bumped the temp up a little 3 days ago and many are continuing to grow well and closer to the correct stage of development. I was actually surprised how they caught up in only 3 days of better temps. I did pull 7 that were obvious quiters and Im sure due to my temp issues. I have one more questionable and I cant see well enough into the Marans or Olive eggs. So I will have 25 going into lockdown. Today is day 19 and I will stop turning them I might lock them down tonight.

My other incubator is full of Cream Legbar eggs and they are right on target and looking good, they are also on day 19. I think I will lock them down here shortly.

I can't remember how to resize a photo, can you remind me?

I am on a pc and use Internet Explorer. If you are on a phone or use a different browser, it may not be the same.
To resize a photo that I have quoted, I right click on the image and a menu comes up. I chose Image Properties. A window opens and there is a box labeled "Width". I type in 175 in that box and click the OK box in the lower right corner. The image is then reduced in my quote.
I try to remove all but one photo in my quote rather than leaving multiple ones....unless I am pointing-out something in more than one picture.

Try to keep the time open to a minimum and choose a time, if possible, that no one is pipping or zipping.

Here is a link to my pics from last year.

Welsummers have the "wild" gene so they will look like little chipmunks. They are also sex linked if they are pure bred. The females will have a very distinct triangle on their heads with clear defined lines. The males will have a fuzzy triangle. I didn't have any male Welsummers, so I have no pics for comparison. A quick Google search might be able to result some images for the sec link attribute. Or even better a search on this site will talks a lot of results and pictures. Happy hatching!
Oh no! they look like Legbars and I have them locked with Legbars as well. Now I will have to really watch them hatch.

Quote: Good luck I hope they all hatch for you.

The unstable temps is why I bought two Genesis 1588's and we built a homemade hatcher. Thanks to Oz and Bama Dude and it is working perfectly! Holding temps withing .02 degrees and holding the humidity perfectly! It will hold 84 eggs in baskets or 7 dozen in cartons.

The digital STC1000 keeps the temps perfect! I had 5 thermometers and three hygrometers calibrate it by.

Good Luck on your hatch! I hope the Cream Legbars hatch well for you. This seems to be more of a mentioned issue with CL not making it past lock down. I hope you have many hatch

I was supposed to go into lockdown last night but I got tired lol I will lockdown today day 19.
This time I have eggs from my stock as well as from ChicKat so lets see what gives. Good luck with your lock down and the hatch!

My new babies are here! Their layer mom is a sex link and dad is one of three roosters but I am pretty sure it is the Delaware. The other roosters are silkies and these babies only have 4 toes. The black one is Freddie and the yellow one is Jaysin! They were laid on Friday the 13th so I had to give them appropriate names! LOL The mom who hatched and will be raising them is a silkie named Elvis (or Woody is you listen to the children) and she has been wonderful!
