Well, I can hear some serious peeping going on in one bator. It sounds like just one. And boy, it sounds almost desperate, like, let me out of here. I use a flashlight to look, the light must have scared the poor little thing. Hopefully, I will have some pips soon..tomorrow is hatch day!

Are you hatching EEs? They can be quite boisterous....

First chick hatched this morning while I was asleep. it seems strong, standing, cheeping and moving about. The egg shell has nasty yolky stuff and blood in it. Is that normal? I don't want the chick to accidentally get back in that egg shell and get the goop all over it. Humidity out of doors is 62% here right now, and all the windows in the house are open. Should I open one of the windows on the incubator and take that shell out or not?

Incubator number 1 is now finally in lockdown, day 19. That particular bator started with 37 Cream Legbar, I only pulled one clear, so 36 CL eggs went into lockdown. Come on chickies HATCH!

Yes, I wondered about that..I have a few in that bator that I am hearing the peeping. I am in for it once they are out and in the brooder.

It snowed here today..after having had warm weather .. in the high 70's..there is snow on the ground. Won't last long. Glad it did though. We put down some lawn treatment, and it said to water today.

Didn't have to water. I just worry about the blossoms on our fruit trees. :/
Anyway, when it warms up, I have a nursery hutch for those little noise makers. They will like it better than this brooder indoors.

I personally pull the chick and the shell out. The shells can get stinky after a while in there..especially if they have that much gunk in the bottom.

MY broody is getting close to being a mom!! Saturday and Sunday r hatch day. She has a Cochin bantam with her that will get moved this evening.

holm..love the photo. She looks so comfy cozy in her nest area. :)

Well..I have a pip!! Now I feel like I fit in on here. lol...it's one that I wouldn't have guessed would pip first. A pretty speckled egg, that is a Welsummer mix. Mama is the Welsummer, dad is an EE. Hope this one is a girl. Wouldn't mind getting some eggs like this one. Of course, there is a chance that she may come out with some green on those legs, and then a petty blue/green egg. Oh well.

Oh, have to add, this is in the other bator..that was quiet. :D

So, I had 2 chick hatch out yesterday that are not part of the hatch along. One pipped yesterday afternoon and last night it was dead. Don't know what happened. I filled bator with water and I am hearing peeps in shells that are not pipped yet. This is a good sign. Bator is having a hard time holding temp since I put water in. Maybe I should have made the water warmer. I have the edges of the bator covered with sheets to hold in heat. I have the heat cranked all the way up but it will not go up to 100. It is staying at 94/95. I have only 5 eggs left for this hatch along. Out of 21 all together, 2 hatched, and all but 5 quit at day 8, 10, 12, 14, and pip. I currently have more hatched from the hova bator than the giant bator. Currently 2 of 21 and others peeping in the shell. Giant was 100 + eggs and got 2. Sigh, for some reason I feel so bummed. Also, my hatches are 50/50 in sex. It seems much easier to buy chicks than to hatch them. :hit
I'm sorry :( But two is better than none, right?
@wornoutmomto3 :lau Way to go Contestant #1! That's the way! Look what woke me up this morning!!! I thought it was DSO getting ready for work! Nope it was my very FIRST hatchling Ever!! (It's a she because I said so too! ;) ) I found her in the 2 egg cups over from her shell in the bator! She's a mover and a shaker already!!! I have a Silkie chickie ! ! ! :jumpy :weee :ya Not too eggcited, can you tell?
Yay! Congrats!

Ok I decided to go ahead and lockdown incubator number 2. This is the bator that was running to cool, so I expect maybe late hatchers at best. I locked down because I swear I saw an egg wiggling around, I watched it for a while and thought it moved a few times so I went with it and they are in lock down too.

This incubator started with 35 mixed breed eggs I pulled 1 clear and 9 quiters(maybe due to low bator temps), 25eggs (a few are questionables) went into lock down.
