Trouble with temps: 3 diff thermometers give 3 diff temps! Ugh which one to believe?

Egg-o-meter from incubator warehouse read on the high side last year. Kind of glitchy this year. (On my 3rd battery if that was the issue)
Cheap digital one from China read about 1 degree low last year. Might be reading up to 3.5 degrees low this time.
Finally got a Brinsea Spot check (yesterday) & used it to set up my back up incubator/ hatcher.

With all those issues, the eggs seem to have developed & I saw some rocking eggs Tues night.

I put them into lockdown yesterday - a day early - because of the movement. I seem to be having problems getting the humidity up to 75%. Using a pan of water, 3 sponges, & 2 dishtowels, the highest I have gotten it is 64%, but most of the time it's about 60%. What is the range of hatching humidity?

I fear my fan might be too strong. Should I turn off the fan & use it as a still air?

sizzle. smooth feathers, but sizzleized...LOL unlike her mom who is silked

smooth sizzle (carries gene)

mom, silkied sizzle

im confused and somewhat new with this frizzle stuff, so correct me if im wrong :)
Beautiful... simply beautiful.
I think that somewhere along the way someone should name a sizzle + frizzle=shiz-nizzle. Thank you for sharing your pics.
So does this smooth feather sizzle end up with chicks like her, or is it a recessive gene?
Are there dangers in breeding or interbreeding sizzles, frizzles, silkies ?

Are there dangers in breeding or interbreeding sizzles, frizzles silkies? Are they healthy birds from hatching through adult?

since he carrys the gene, i think chicks would be frizzle from him. im not sure if its dominant or not...i just know i couldnt breed him to a frizzle again.

sadly i lost that little guy last week. but i have more hatching eggs im waiting to pip! i hope to get another like him. ill be selling eggs this summer :)

Still 52 hrs left in hatch day. Need to find something to do (I guess I should work some). BTW I usually keep some hot water pans around the incubators in case I need to open it, the humidity outside could be closer to the bator. This time though I found this small humidifier that might help:

http://www.amazon.com/Air-O-Swiss-7146-Travel-Ultrasonic-Humidifier/dp/B001JL4LZ4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1428001402&sr=8-4&keywords=air-o-swiss+humidifier

Juni, I bought a small personal atomizer/humidifier from Amazon that I like a lot. It's a Deneve brand, and it does a great job of fogging. I had thought to do as some people on BYC suggested when I had trouble raising the humidity in my Styrobator. My plan was to loosely drape one of those light Mylar "Emergency Blankets" over the Bator and put this little humidifier under it next to the incubator. (Haven't tried it yet as my new Coolerbator does not have that problem.). In any event, I wanted to tell you about the Deneve because it has some nice features that are good for this kind of use. It can stay ON for 10 hours (many of the small humidifiers can't stay ON for very long), you can put the wand in a stable non-tippable vessel of your choice, and it has both replaceable wicks and a warranty. Might be worth a look for you (I looked at a LOT). Wish I could tell you how my plan worked out, but it's still on back burner. Good luck with your hatch. Laurie in Berthoud

I suck at incubating. I have never ever had a good hatch rate!

I smelled a bad smell in the bator, candled the five eggs. Three looked bad, I cracked them all slightly at air cell. All three chicks where dead upon further inspection! They still had some yolks to absorb. This is how I find all my chicks, even in all past batches! Why does this happen? Once I had 49 eggs, 8 hatched.

Should I get a new incubator? I have a LG right now...

Now out of 14 original eggs, I have two eggs left and a single chick.

If it hatched from a polish egg it is crossed with a white houdan or a white silkie. The foot feathering would lead me to believe its likely silkie x polish. Would that be a sizzle or frizzle or something like that? Im confused on that subject.

We're there any sultans in the area? I've had chicks that looked exactly like that when I had a sultan roo with my polish hens.....

You should list your LG on craigslist asap.
Especially if its a digital model 9300 or 10300.
