Probably one of the kids moved the chair blocking the entry to the rec room, then the dog might have knocked it. I've been checking every half hour because I was expecting hatching today/tomorrow.
Just feel so bad for the one who made it then all the temp problems, all the humidity problems, to be lost at the last hurdle.
Not hatching again. Too hard.

Thanks all for the hugs. I'm off to scoff some chocolate
Having them make-it until near the end and losing them is the toughest.

Don't give-up on hatching altogether though....maybe when you children are older or grown, like mine, you will be able to try without so much worry.

I think if I ever try again it will be under a chicken! It's safer!

That is because they have generations of instinct to rely on. Get a hen that is from a broody breed and let her raise them. I know many here love to have chicks in a brooder so they can handle them but I prefer my broody hens. Watching them raise the chicks is just the best entertainment.

Quote: I keep my humidity between 75% and 80% during lockdown, precisely because I do open it and remove chicks as they hatch. I don't open the incubator if there's a chick actively zipping, so that I don't cause anyone to dry out in their shells. Otherwise, you should be fine. 89% is quite high, but I don't know if it will hurt the chicks. I've never been able to get mine that high lol

I do 70-75% as well because I remove chicks and will assist if I feel it is absolutely neccessary. When it hits over 80% I open to let some air out. It's also a good excuse to turn those eggs over that have pipped and gotten rolled where nosey me can't see...lol

I came home to 10 chicks in the bator and no idea which came from which egg. :weee

Luckily none were SS. I'll have to go back and look at my set count to remember how many of each I had. That's not counting under the broody.

I have so far:
4 from 6 Brabanter shipped from Florida to Alaska!
7 from 7 Appenzeler spithaben eggs (sp?) Shipped from Arizona to Alaska!
9 from 18 Black Copper Maran shipped from Texas to Alaska!
4 Welsh Harlequin Duck eggs pipped!

And more still trying!

Is there anyone out there with no pips yet? I think I need a late-hatchers' support group.

Since I saw egg movement in the turner Tues night, I really thought mine would have been early, not late.

Has anyone ever seen rocking eggs 4-5 days before successful hatching?
