Happy Easter everyone! I finally got to see the chicks. There are 4 EE chicks with cute fluffy cheeks.

This chick kept biting mama's comb. XD

Help needed with possible splay legs.

I had 2 chicks with somewhat splay legs. One recovered spontaneously in a few hrs, however the other one did not. I finally put a band-aid on, however, its not helping and he is getting restless. I left him overnight with it and all he can do is manage to move backwards.

What shall I do?

- Shall I shorten the band-aid length?
- try extending the legs and roll in a paper towel/newspaper pocket?
- Any other suggestions?

Here are the pics after the band-aid:

Well this is interesting. My roo is a dark cornish, my hens with the viable eggs (I thought) dominiques and and dark cornish. I looked at chick pics of both breeds. Dark cornish look like striped chipmunks while doms are black with yellow spots. All my chicks are black with yellow or white spots. Not a chippie among them. Apparently the dc gals are too fast for the dc roo. So much for variety!

Only possible different one is the mostly black one that might be the one from my neighbor's egg. Her chickens are all mixed breed descendants of a dc roo and a blue andalusian roo I had hatched for her a couple years ago. But who knows?
eta photos!! :D

Up to six babies now. Still 9 Piped. Only 3 are doing nothing. I think that is good for first time shipped eggs. Now just have to wait to see if the 9 Piped eggs hatch. Come on chickies!!

Final count for EHAL 7 out of 7!

Came home from church and the last one hatched while I was gone...

Some of the week olds from last hatch decided they are going to play mama to the lil bantys...

Came home to find 4 of the 22 in a corner by themselves with the 6 lil babies curled up under them! So cute!

HAPPY EASTER!
We have a chickie! Our first pipper hatched some time in the wee hours this morning!!! Looked in a 6 this morning and there she was all matted and non-fluffy with an eggshell chunk glued to the top of her head (she is just fluffing up now, but still has that eggshell glued to her head!

). We are so excited this is our first chick ever! Now we have one more zipping, and another pipped! So exciting! I was very worried that my temp spike had killed them, but hooray! We have babies!

Also if anyone is looking for some sounds to play for encouraging their chicks, we put together a youtube playlist of chickens clucking.

I got up at 6:30am to find a third chick sleeping in the incubator!! My Easter baby. Another blue from my Delware x EE mix. So all three that were pipped when my humidity went down to 20% hatched out fine!! Praise God. And I have another pip. I'm hoping to come home from church to more pips. :)

Four more pips when I got home!! And three others peeping. I feel so blessed that my chicks aren't all dead. I'm headed out for the rest of the day, so I expect chicks when I get home!

Everyone still waiting - hang in there!
