To those of you that sell your chicks... What would you charge for barnyard mixes? I had a Facebook friend comment that she had lost several chicks from the batch she bought at the local fleet store. I commented to her that if she didn't mind barnyard mixes, I had 30 chicks in the brooder and 31 more eggs in the incubator. She and another person commented back to me that they are interested and inquired about price. They would be straight run since I'm not sure I can accurately sex them...

If nothing else, I figure its a good way to enable my hatching addiction!!

Typical prices I see for straightrun barnyard mixes are $2-5. I usually charge $4per mixed breed some times with a buy 5 get one free or something like that, if it will lay a colored egg like blue, green or olive sometimes people might charge a little more.

Here's a question for everyone, I had 3 duck eggs that tried hatching but couldn't. They had broke through the membrane but never made it to the shell and died. The parents are free range ducks so they shouldn't be lacking anything nutritional. I live in WY and the elevation is about 5,700 feet. I have a cabinet incubator that stayed about 44% humidity and 99.5 degrees F. I couldn't get it to go any higher. Any ideas what I can do differently. I did have 1 hatch. Thanks in advance.

My glued baby didn't make it.

I have an external pip and an internal pip, and then I think I'm done. There are a few eggs left that I'll leave another day or two, but pretty sure they're duds.

How do you tell if eggs left are viable? My day 21 was Saturday at noon. I have 6 eggs of 14 left. Last hatch was last night.

I have three broken through the shells, little beaks pecking around and chirping.
two have broken through in the wrong place, not even near the air pocket end.
all three have made a nice sized hole so I am hopeful they will all make it out.
my poor little boil in the bag has not moved in a few hours. will give it until I light the stove tonight to see if anything positive is happening.

My hatch is still slooooooooooly progressing. Day 22 is coming to an end, technically day 23 starts around 5pm tonight. Out of the 36 eggs that made it into lockdown in this incubator I have had 14 CL hatch and still have about 4-5 pips in that incubator so hopefully I get a few more to hatch from them.

In the second incubator which also nearing day 23, this is the incubator that was running too cool. 25 mixed breed eggs made it into lockdown on day 19 and I finally have some pips, I think I saw 5 pips.

from what I have read here you have still a few days left potentially. I think it says up to 25 days.
I guess you could light it up and see if they have poked through the membrane.
movement or chirpy cheep cheep noises will give you a clue. there is also a float test you can do too. check out the section on incubating, it tells it far better than I ever could.

well i had a super great hatch...and a great easter...got a pair of purple peafowl...hatched the quail and the chicken eggs...here are some pics

this guy hatched and then his head got stuck in the shell...i looked in the incubator and seen a floating egg....lol

quail...was 26 jumbo brown, and 8 jumbo white texas a n m....total 34 out of 51...67 percent hatch not to bad for shipped eggs

chickens..fly tie eggs were 21 out of 30...shipped eggs..70 percent hatch

and not sure how many hatched of my eggs..but will get back with you on that number

believe it or not after tapping on the incubator for almost 30 minutes, the chick broke free on its own. Almost 28 hrs after pipping, one would think its weak and tired but its running around everywhere and jumping from one tray to another. And in the process, it created such a ruckus that two more zipped and came out within a few minutes.
