Set 29 eggs on the 14th around 1:53 PM. Tossed 3 on day 14. Marked 2 as questionable but locked them down as part of the 26 that made it to lockdown. First chick hatched on Friday, April 3 around 7 AM. 8 had hatched by the time I went to bed that night. By the time IK went to bed on Saturday night I only had 7 that had not hatched. After the end of Sunday night I have 5 eggs that haven't hatched ( 2 of which are the 2 I marked as quitters). I of the hatchers on Sunday is still trying to finish absorbing the rest of it's yolk & may or may not make it as it had become shrink wrapped, but, as of right now it is doing well.
So I have 21 that hatched out of 29 that were set! 72% hatch rate. 9 of the 12 Black Penedesenca eggs hatched.
Good night!

That is a great hatch. Not bad at all! Congrats!

I have one egg not hatching. We candled it yesterday and it was still moving. Not good enough at candling to know if there was an internal pip or not. No external pip yet. How long do I wait? Saturday was day 21. 4 hatched on Saturday, then 4 more on Sunday before we got up (some still wet when we got up). We are really hoping this last little guy makes it. It did get chilled when we removed the 8 hatchers and then candled it. Suggestions?

Ok, like I mentioned right now I have the Wheaten chick with the yolk sack in a cup in the incubator. It is the only thing in there right now - all the other eggs hatched. I turned down the temperature, but is is ok to leave it in there? The hatched chicks are all under a heat plate or out under adoptive broody hens. What temperature should I try and keep the chick at now while it is absorbing the extra yolk?

HELP!! I just looked at the Wheaten chick with the yolk sack out and it was trying to climb out again, and it looks like it has pushed the ENTIRE yolk sac out!!!

And he is still trying to get out... and OH NO!!! It just polked the sack with its toe and all the yolk is coming out! I guess this is the end for this little guy...

Good morning!
Easter was full of excitement at Aster Retirement. Our first chick hatched at 7:00am just as the residents were gathering for breakfast. and by 1:00pm we had 9 chicks. our total was 18 of 22 set. and we even had a special visitor watching the hatch...So many smiles and stories. Is it a wonder that I personally am addicted to hatching chicks!
Best Wishes. Phil

Great photos! Thank you for the update! The old and young, and even the Easter Bunny are enjoying the new chicks!

My final count is 13

The combination of cat breaking glass on the incubator (leaving them at weird temps all day), plus just he erratic temps that my coolerbator was having (just never recovered from the broken glass) (not using it again In the future), and the drowning humidity.....all took a big toll on the eggs. Will get some pics tonight! I had some real different colors this year, from eggs from my hens, plus the couple shipped marans that hatched.
