My first striped Silkie chick. The next is his 24 hr almost Landfill sibling, who is doing just great. And the third pic is one of the 8 Light Sussex hatched.. The directions were perfect, BTW; will work on captioning. Many thanks.

it looks fine, it does not look inflamed . many of my pasty butt babies are naked back there after a while since removing the 'crust' often takes the small feathers with it. just keep an eye out for others who will pick at it. some people use a peroxide mix to remove poop from feathers.

I agree; that has been my experience with pasty butt. would be wonderful to know of something that softens and dissolves that hardened gunk.

Quote: I know it may sound mid-evil but I use small pliers to crush the hard clumps then lightly brush the stuff away. You must be very careful when doing this as to not pinch their poor little butts. I then take a paper towel wetted with warm water and hold it to their butts to soften the rest then brush it again with the wet towel To remove what is softened. I don't always get it all but the majority comes away though.

Yes, I've seen it.

I'm not convinced. The bees cap the honey when it gets to 17% moisture content. If you extract uncapped honey, it will ferment. I still don't see in this set up how you would know that all of the honey is capped and ready, without opening the hive. I'll be watching as time goes on and more people start using it. For now, I'll stick with my current set up.

I just put my honey super on today!

Now they are collecting for ME!

You are saying pretty much what another person said when I asked if she had seen it, she also keeps bees, plus, she says, how do you know that you aren't squashing bees when you turn that?
Wanting some fresh honey. Sounds yummy, and it helps with a cough~! How come I didn't think of that sooner?

I have used small surgical type scissors to cut through it and make it easier to soften - which I usually do with a cue tip saturated in BZK. Am thinking I should do research on this, though.

This was a very difficult contest for us to judge, as there are so many outstanding entries. It was very close among several entries.

The winner of the Broodies and their Babies Contest is..........

Congratulations!
Congratulations! This is darling. :)

I would think they would either be in your "picture" folder or "download" folder, depending on what OS your computer is using.
X's 2. And, if you don't have a picture folder started..start one..it's a great place to download you favorite things.
