I would say that I can't believe you said that, but somehow, I'm not surprised.

I too have not had an egg within an egg. They are interesting, but it's got to be painful for the hen.

This didn't come from my hens. I was buying eggs from a friend before mine started laying. She's had chickens for many years and this was the first she had seen. Funny, but the next day there was a story on the local news about someone getting one of these eggs. Can you imagine hard boiling one of these?

Anyone ever have one like this?

Found it when I pulled new babies out of the bator this morning. It is from a shipped egg.
Hard to say what it is. Any other symptoms? Nasal discharge? It could be something as simple as it got pecked in the eye by another chick. Some ophthalmic ointment would be good to put on it.

Poor little thing.  Does the chick seem normal in every other way?  -DB

It's normal other wise. I had a similar one a couple months ago but it had an obvious scratch. I was in a hurry this morning so dabbed on some triple antibiotic ointment and stuck it in the brooder with it's silkie buddies. I will post updates when I get home and can get a better look at it. I did add antibiotics and vitamins to their water before I left.

This one wasn't huge. The egg inside was tiny, but still, it was pretty interesting.

it is pretty bizarre, if I hadn't seen it for myself I wouldn't have thought it possible. yours is only the second egg I have seen like that in mmfrghpt*^% many years. I was about 11 when I saw the one on the farm which is so long ago that recorded time doesn't go back that far.
nice to see it wasn't a one off.

I was thinking the same thing...did you have other chicks in there with it? They think those little black spots, called eyeballs, are something to eat. They start pecking at almost everything once they are up and about.

chicks dont limit that thinking to each other-i got pecked in the eye before by a hungry chick and ended up with a two week eye infection! yes they do it to each other, i have two right now i am treating for it. problem is they wipe their eyes on their wings to scratch and they then become a depository for bacterial and 'goop' that then re irritates the eye next time they scratch. i use regular eye drops and use a warm cloth to wash the feathers on a regular basis.
