I unfortunately last week lost a hobbled chick to drowning because I got the marbles out and ready and then got side tracked and forgot put them into the waterer before I went to bed

I too have lost one that way. Even though my waterer had very little water in it, a hobbled chick fell into it and couldn't get out.

I've been thinking of getting one of those.

I have one, I have used it for bantams mostly and also LF chicks. The only thing I dislike is that the large plastic water jar is on a tiny base so its a little tipsy in my opinion. I would like it better if the plastic jar was smaller and proportionate to the base.

I have a narrow plastic bottle. It does not tip over. I started using a nipple water fountain for them and it really cuts down on the mess. When they get a bit older, I have them using a gallon bucket with three vertical nipples. It is awesome! They have knocked it off and it did not leak. I have it hanging from a rope for the 15 week old juvies.

EVERYONE,
Thank you so much for your quick responses. I really appreciate your wisdom on this issue. I am looking forward to seeing this little guy heal. Hatching is getting better. My count was 17/1 on the hatch a long. The other day I had 7/3. Something happened at the end. They were all alive and pecking/ knocking or cheeping. One died during zip. One died early in peanuthood. The other two internally pipped but didn't make it out. I am learning so much with all this reading. Thank you so much for being there at a moments notice. :) :hugs

I was thinking the same thing...did you have other chicks in there with it?  They think those little black spots, called eyeballs, are something to eat.  They start pecking at almost everything once they are up and about.

It hatched with a Silkie. I'm not going to rule it out but Silkies are usually very gentle with their hatch mates.
The other swollen eye chick from a couple months ago had an obvious scratch/cut in it's eye. It was a first hatched and all I could figure was it somehow got jabbed with a piece of shell??? I can't find any wounds this time.

It looks as if the eye isn't fully in the socket. I am not sure what to do other than keep an eye on it.

I am wondering this myself. I am keeping antibiotic ointment on it for now and researching. Has anyone heard of this?
