She just keeps getting prettier. Had to share. I've never kept the frizzle...I wasn't to sure about them. I did keep a white cochin frizzle for a short time. Now all I need to do is think of a name for her!

Beautiful hen. She looks like a breeze is blowing her feathers. My "hen" named Breeze ended up being a rooster. Oh well.

I would like to be added to the hatch-a-long please

Welcome! So glad you can join!

Well I was a little depressed today, becuase I was finishing preparing the brooders for the ducks, since they were supposed to arrive tomorrow, when I get a call from Metzer saying that they didn't get enough for my order of 10 ducks (5 blue Swedish ducks and 2 male 3 female black runners), and that they will ship them out next week... On the other hand my chickens were supposed to arrive on Friday, but they called on Monday and said they have to push my order back until the 29 so they would arrive on the 2nd of March. Atleast it's not too long even though I ordered back in November... Anywho the good news is my austrolorps both laid eggs today and the hens are starting to get into full production. So hopefully I can collect about a dozen austrolorp eggs for the HAL.

I'm glad the hens are laying. I sure hope those babies arrive soon. Waiting is so HARD!

I would like to participate but want to know if I can set ends the Friday or Thursday March 3rd or 4th. I am a teacher and would like the eggs to hatch during the school week.

I successfully hatched chickens in my class last year, I think this may be a fun contest for my class to be a part of.

Welcome! Sounds like a great idea! There is little more amazing then watching a baby bird break into the world.

I'm in!!!

Welcome!

This will be my first hatch along, I am planning on setting 24 eggs.

That's a great number, not too many and not too few. Best of luck with them!

I plan to set 12 or less not sure yet I will let you know when I have a final answer:)

Welcome to the Hatch-a-long

I have one Saipan that has hatched!! Two more have pipped. Two silkie/SG have pipped. These are my first ever shipped eggs. Not so good on the silke/SG 17 eggs set. 12 clear at 7 day. I am not sure about the 3 others in the bator. 6 Saipans set, one stinker at 7 day. Two are still iffy..

Two more groups set a week apart, Shipped Red stars next week, local Blue Laced Red Wyandottes the following week.

Ebay auction win of 4 different rare breeds on the way now, but to early for HAL

Gonna set my backyard mixes for the HAL, DH says I have to curb the egg buying for a bit. I'm okay with that. had a 93% hatch rate with them on my first ever hatch.

Hatching chicks is so exciting! Congrats on that! You sure are getting some awesome mixes to hatch.

Only had these guys for a day some less then that. They went to there new home today. There going to a good home though from what I can tell.

Its hard to give up our babies but to know they went to a good home is always awesome.

And just put another 45 eggs in the bator. Got a lady who wants 30 chicks. At least I still have my 30 2 1/2 week old pure breeds to add to my flock.

Everyone will want chicks in the spring, a great time to sell any extra chicks. At least, that's what I'm hoping, as I have a feeling I'll have too many have this hatch.

Lets see I will be setting Isbars, Cream Crested Legbars, Welbars, Barred Rocks, Fly tie Genetic Hackle, Tolbunts if I can find a roo, Black copper and lavender Marans, White Marans

Those are all amazing breeds!

Aw, it seems as though your son supports your chicken addiction
wink.png
my son reminds me at least once a month that he expects me to get birchen bantam cochins again. Our first rooster, doodle do, was a birchen. He was my sons favorite, but was killed by a coon 3 years ago. My son still talks about him
sad.png
In a few years when he seems more interested and committed to feeding and caring for a chicken, I will have to get him his own flock of birchens. He is 7 now, and he just isn't quite there with the interest.

I hope you guys can get some! I wouldn't even think twice, if I just HAD to choose only one breed to keep, it would be Salmon faverolles.

I'm sorry about your rooster. It can be hard, even after a few years. Birchens are very beautiful, I want to get one soon. Salmon Faverolles are awesome also (very cute and fluffy!). Both Cochins and faverolles make great pets for kids.

Welcome!

ALL CHICKENS ALIVE AND ACCOUNTED FOR THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!

After we lost our last flock we tried very hard to make sure NOTHING could get into the coop at night. Apparently we did good. There were scratch and deep claw marks on the outside of the door and under a window, but we had put chicken wire over all of the windows and around the door frame so nothing could dig the door frame open. We also reinforced the door with a lock at the top bottom and a latch in the middle. I think all that work finally paid off.

I had a prayer answered this morning, THAT WAS SO STRESSFUL

Yes! I'm so glad! We have a skunk that comes in the barn at night and I always have to make sure all the chicks are secure. As long as the skunk can't get to the chicks then it causes no problems. However, Bobcats can be dangerous to all sorts of animals. I'm glad your dog is helping to watch over the flock.

I'm in need of an Emu update................how are the emu eggs doing?
Emu!!!!!!

So just gave the flock fresh water feed. Cleaned it out a bit. Cleaned the brooder for the 30 two and half week olds. Turned 40 plus eggs by hand. Relaxing for a min!!

SOOOO I have a big ol greyhound dane mix dog who is so amazing with my chickens he truely loves them and even watches over the baby chicks they hop all over him. He just LOST IT looking out into my backyard, I look out to find out what he as freaking out about and I see a Bobcat come out from where my chicken coop is. I DONT DARE TO GO LOOK. Kaysen (the dog) is still barking and hubby is asleep, I may go wake him and make him go look.

I already lost 1 flock I dont know if my heart could take another whole flock gone. I wish my rooster would just crow or something to let me know they are ok...

Wrong, come back from putting my girl on the bus and i have a pip, check humidity an hour later and 2 more pips. I'm thinkin she'll get to watch them hatch when she gets home from school.
