Ok the little road trip to get eggs was a bit of an adventure when I realized I grabbed the wrong adapter for the gps. But I got them, thank you Christina and ty for the free extra dozen! First pic is the beautiful new eggs on the way home (CL, OE, EE), 2nd pic is of all the eggs together (mine are from various prod. type hens by CL & EEs roos). I filled up my lucky dry hatching bator with the new blood and had pull an even older incubator out of the attic for eggs from my own flock. It has no fan and no turner so we'll see how it goes. I never did fit all that are pictured.
Total set: 91
Thank You! Good Luck with your hatch!

Think I killed my eggs on the first night! Temp spiked to 127 due to me not putting the sensor back into the incubator after adding water. Spike was for around 7 hours while I was asleep. :(. Think I should just turn it off or let it go a couple of days?

I'd start another batch if you have any more eggs. Any temp over 103 for that long will pretty much cook them.

No harm in letting it go for a few days. And you have a two day window to be part of the hatch, so add some more today :)

I set 30 eggs last night around 10; not the best idea since I could hardly sleep last night. I stayed up 'til 3 checking to make sure the temp stabilized. There are 12 French Black Copper Marans, 6 assorted silkies, 6 assorted Orpingtons, all picked up locally yesterday. The other six are from my flock: 2 Polish, 3 Cochin and one Ameraucana crossed with a Salmon Faverolles roo. The Maran eggs came from a really nice person who first told me they had lots of orders for eggs and young chickens who were not laying well yet. I told them about this Hatch-A-Long I wanted to participate in and that I really wanted to include a few dark brown eggs. I offered to pay more than their very reasonable price, and they agreed. When I picked them up they just gave me a dozen eggs! All they asked was that I let them know how well they hatch and if I have too many, they would gladly take them back! Feeling very blessed!:yesss:

Very nice neighbors.

My mom doesn't like birds as a whole, but she still brags about mine when she gets the chance!

Yea, grandchicken kids are the best.

I placed 8 eggs under my little broody hen.
Thank You! Good Luck with your hatch!

@mlm Mike

Ok they have started. I've set 38

24 Orpington's
14 project birds.

And the weather is bringing in the biggest storm we've had in quite awhile. Wind gust up to 60 mph. Generator is ready.
Thank You! Good Luck with your hatch! Hoe you kept power, but it's nice to have a generator handy!

Okay, hopefully all of my eggs are set now! There's a chance I might add more tomorrow, if two of my hens will cooperate, but I'm going to try really hard to resist.

All eggs from my own flock. In the Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco I have 9; 6 from my SLW hen and mixed breed rooster, and 3 from my best laying mixed breed hen, and the same mixed breed rooster. I'll be turning these by hand.

In my Brinsea Mini Advanced I have 5 eggs. These are from 3 Delaware hens, and the son of the SLW hen and mixed up rooster from above. So I guess he's a mixed breed rooster too. He's also an Alumni from last year's Easter HAL.

So, I guess that means I've set 14 eggs for this years HAL. Since I have room for 12 chicks, that all makes good sense.
Thank You! Good Luck with your hatch!

Alright, my final count is 27 Easter Egger mixes.
Thank You! Good Luck with your hatch!

We set 34 eggs today, if slightly later than noon. *sigh*

Mix of standard (barnyard mix), and bantams ("purebred" Silkie and D'Uccle).

The hand belongs to my daughter, The Chicken Whisperer (age 10). :D
Thank You! Good Luck with your hatch!

Oops got home from the movies to a few more eggs layed so of course I set 2 more. My complete total now is 23.

Only setting one of our own eggs and it is a Black Copper Marans cross. Using the thermostat that my husband made for me last year.

How many total eggs did you set?

Last week I set 16 Ancona duck eggs for the HAL. Just now I candled them and all 16 are developing! Both fertility and livability have improved over the batch I set four weeks ago. Hooray! On track for a great hatch. Good luck everyone!

Quote: Mike is a fantastic helper! Along with Sally and Ron too!

Question: should I clean the dirt off this turkey egg before setting it? Picked up egg wash just in case
I wouldn't wash it.

I'm new to BYC, well as a member. Been reading the site for almost 2 yrs now. I just put my first batch of eggs in my hovabator on Tuesday, dang it! ( hope all 13 hatch...beginners luck) I would have waited if I saw the hatch a long sooner, always next yr
