The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

It is definitely harder to watch chicks moving pipped eggs around the bator. I think I am going to look for little plastic baskets or something to put eggs in when they hatch and line them with paper towel or matting of some sort.
I keep telling my self I'm gonna do the same. But the soccer game never fails they just keep hatching. I haven't lost one yet to a pipped egg being moved by a chick.

Day 6 I couldn't help myself so I candled. Out of 32 I have 21 left. 1 duck egg that had a crack I tried to mend with wax was a blood ring, 3 blood ring chick eggs. The rest was clears, which was from my leghorn. The rest have great veining except maybe 1 or 2 they are iffy. I can't tell if they are developing a little slow or early quitters. I'll give them a couple of days.

This one is 2 days older. Was a test egg to check for fertility.

Duck egg. Sorry they are blurry. My best candle flashlight quite on me so I'm using a regular one and I'm not that great at balancing for pictures.

ok, just to be sure.. I set on Sunday the 6th. Does that mean chicks on EASTER, right??!!!
Yes it does!

Candled a few, great development in the ones I checked. Will wait to candle them all to toss clears a little longer.

Didn't get any candling pics tonight, but I did get pics of my 3 week old coturnix chicks from the silver hatch.

Heads are just starting to feather in. They are growing fast and getting so big!

Here are photos including a couple non-silvers from that batch. They just got done playing in their water, so a little wet, but grabbed some photos anyway. LOVE these guys!

And a couple non-silvers from the batch...
They are all beautiful!

It is a still air incubator (no fan), so you want the temperature to be 101.5.

Quote: Ditto! I love hatching in cartons, less mess too!

Once you have set all of your eggs, please post in this hatch-a-long thread how many total eggs you set.

Pictures are wonderful, as we all enjoy seeing eggs in the incubator, but please make it easy on Mike and post the total number set too. He has a lot of posts to record!

If you didn't set any eggs, please post that too, so we don't have to try to track you down.

What's the hardest part oh hatching? Waiting to candle? Or watching your hatched chicks play soccer with your other pipped eggs? Mine are playing soccer right now takes everything I can not to open it and grab the fluff balls.

Watching the incubator for what trick it is going to do next. Last night dropped to 97.4 again. Had been a steady 99.6 all day long

Glad to have the spot check in there so I know when it's lying to me.

The incubator keeps me anxious the entire hatch! My bad for continuing to use it though.
