The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Quote: I had the misfortune of finding out what happens when someone sends you eggs from a breed you really want around Christmas. CPL sent me Serama eggs a few years ago and did everything she could to make sure they got here intact. PO lost them and I got them 4 days late and while none were broken, every last one of them was scrambled. I haven't tried to get Seramas since then.

My week old chicks. I hadn't expected so much feathering in just a week.
aaaawwwwwwweeee look at the wee widdle one is that a legbar?

I am sending a couple pictures to get feedback. @sallysunshine will remember the MacGyverbator a bit. I changed the angle for turning because I am getting shipped eggs and didn't want the rolling. The bottom drops down for lockdown. The left side holds the "hen" (light/heat which plugs in to a thermostat, fan, water underneath grate for humidity). The right side is the "nest". Eggs fit in air cell up and a timer turns them or I can switch the turner on and off. The microwave turner is great but made me rethink the process. I had to consider how to turn eggs without damaging sensitive air cells or chalaza. I have insulated/foam that wraps the entire incubator. During test runs the bator holds temp great. The aquarium is great at holding humidity so I don't need much water at all. Everything can be disinfected. For lockdown I'll drop the floor to level position, remover the turner, cover it with shelf liner, and lay the eggs on their sides. The top is a two piece insulated panel so I can open hen or nest without losing too much heat or humidity.

REMEMBER IT??? I AM KEEPING TRACK OF IT LMAO!!!

Thanks to all who put the huge effort into this project. It's a massive undertaking and I greatly enjoy being able to participate and appreciate the effort.

You can't make everyone 100% happy all of the time, it's impossible. Heck, I can't make myself happy 100% of the time, and I'm in control of me. ;) This thread flies at times, sometimes I have time for that, sometimes I don't. I've got the amazing option of skipping posts or just not coming to the thread if that's what makes me happy. There are lots of good folks on here, having a good time, stimulating and multiplying the excitement for the upcoming hatch. I feel it adds a ton of fun to what could otherwise be "just another hatch" (for those that hatch a lot) and gives a big support base for those that don't.

As was said, if you don't like it, you aren't required to read. If you don't like one part of it, scroll works well.
I wish you happiness in the threads you frequent. For the rest of us...

Woot! Woot! Woot!

SET ALL THE EGGS!!!!!!!!

Now, I have to run to the P.O., my eggs are here!

Getting close to a hatch. Have eggs going into lockdown today and then some every 2 to 3 days for the next week or so. I don't get much sleep. Keep getting up to look in the window. I wonder if this is how dad's feel in the waiting room. Now its mom's turn LOL

I will be in lockdown soon

The Hatching participant list is current to post 1805.

They've seen the light! Well done, parents! :)

Good luck with the hatch!

Just got back from going to pick up eggs at my local PO (Palmyra, WI). "We're sorry, no box here." Rechecked the tracking info - yes, indeedy, the box has arrived at the Palmyra post office ......in Indiana.

So, they will send them on to Wisconsin.

Sigh.

Omigosh!
