The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Have any of you ever run into an issues where your chick abused? The other 2 beat her up, but only when she is in the brooder with them.
I only got 3 chicks that hatched 2 of them yellow RIR, 1 black Barred Rock, the barred rock is the one being beat up. They are fine with her outside the brooder box when I let the kids watch them run around they are happy playful and even snuggle with her and she LOVES it, but when I try to put her in the brooder they are truly brutal to this poor thing. She does try to fight back but she is 2 days younger than them and they are bigger. I feel bad because she wants sooo much to be with the others, she does not want to be alone, but, I don't know how else to keep her safe. I wish one of my silkies would take her and care for her. They are just not old enough yet

Doh, lost my multi posts, so here goes...

**Awwwwwwwwwwww, diving duckies, they look like little penguins shooting through the water.

**Yay, more shakers. 2016 - the year of the shaker.
**Love grandma's shelf. I've got a box of such things, really should put a corner shelf up....up WAY high. I have 5 and 6 year old boys.

**Hugs? HUGS? Sniffle, I dinna get no hugs.

**Mint in the coops...hmm, that's a cool idea. Eucalyptus - some long since used neuron in the back of my brain is screaming WARNING, would have to research, but gut instinct says could be a dangerous.

I don't remember what else I highlighted.

Welcome new participants, good luck with the hatches!

Goooooooood frosty morning, all. The rain has turned to black ice. Time to ice skate to work.

that happened with my barred rock at first, but she was in charge soon enough

For candling, I use a Coast HP7. It is 250 lumens. I can see into my welsummer eggs enough to see veining, growth and movement.

Here is a faverolles egg to compare. They are from the same incubation batch, and are on day 13.

PS these pictures look waaaayyyy better if you click on them

Is 250 lumuns more or less than 500 lumens. I bid on a 500 lumen light yesterday. I lost it was $7 I bid 6. I know on pipe the smaller the number the heavier the pipe is,

If you are using a light, get a red heat light. The regular lights will make the chicks more aggressive while the red light calms them down.

This is another reason why I like brooder plates--it gives the chicks a nice dark place to hide if they need to.
