12 hour hatch window for the projects and legbar, best window yet! Only one egg early DIS I pulled... serama are doing nothing, I think I screwed up by setting them in three days instead of two cause I am dumb and forgetful probably gonna drown cause of the high humidity. but time will tell! I FOUND A BIG NO NO in hatching, This was the first time I pulled empty shells out early. first time EVER! I had a trampled chick and it looks like they pulled his umbilical strings at hatch, he must have bled and they just had a pecking field day on him after that. Had the shells been in there, it probably would have given him some space to hatch and dry up because he would have been surrounded by empty shells and in some "cover" he is actually in this image, I didnt see him until I checked the serama. early AM all pipped at the same time basically

Interesting. I always remove the broken shells, even from the Broodies, but when using the incubator I also remove chick that completely detached from thier shells as soon as I have 2, as each one gets to over 10 mins old. I have some peeping in the bator right now.

1 I find it interesting that you can do emu eggs ove in America. You need a zoo permit which is a huge pain to be able to hatch them here in aust, although we have millions of wild ones.


On older eggs.
Last hatch I threw in a set of 12 eggs that had been collect over s period ov at least 12 days, then stored in fridge for 3 weeks, and they all hatched. The ones I lost in that set were all less than 7 days old at set.

Alrighty then I am trying something new just came across it. It is a vitamin spray that goes on the eggs right before you put them in and once more before hatch. It is supposed to increase hatch on shipped eggs too. Wish me luck. It has gotten good reviews so far. I am setting bcm, fwm, ccl, welbar, Isbar, cochin, fly tie genetic hackle barred rocks and lbcm I can set up to 8 dz after shipping to others who ordered some

you do this @Akrnaf2 and then click on the blue name pop up, and then it turns your typed name blue and that person will get a notification in their email they signed up to BYC with. NOT BYC email. But you must set your settings so that you receive tag notifications

My place this morning. First snow this winter.

I will be joining, hatching call ducks

No idea how many yet obviously, as many as I can collect between Valentine's Day and Feb. 29th.

Just an egg collecting note: I've set eggs up to 18 days old (meaning I collected them 18 days before setting) and had healthy chicks hatch. That's the oldest I've ever tried to set, and it worked so I'm just putting that out there.

Well it took almost every spare moment I could find over the course of the past 4-5 days but I managed to make it through all the post. 1-2440. If I get more than 100 behind its not gonna happen again. Not sure why but I missed last years Easter HAL. First one was the 5th annual and I had a blast. Looking forward to this years. Have some of Partridge Rock mixes in the bator now as a test hatch. Not sure what I will come across to set for the HAL. And it begins all over as I was typing another post.....I will not get behind...
