The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I'm thinking that I should just pull all of the eggs my girls have layed. I know they're broody and want to raise a clutch. But it's too cold. They're not sitting yet because they're not done laying. The embryos will all be dead before they actually get to setting.

But the good thing is that they're ready. As it warms up,whenever that is,I know that I've got some girls that are interested! Until then,I'll just love on y'all's babies!!!!

God bless,Glory

Ps...SallySunshine-Yes it is way cool! Only problem is......IM NOT A MORNING PERSON!!!

Ugh I don't think I will have anything to hatch for the hatch along... I will try, but I don't know if it will happen. The Icelandic chickens aren't laying so she won't be able to send me some til Atleast e me of March, and the only thing I will have are showgirls, which isn't bad, but not everything I wanted... Sadly..
oh Nathan!! you got time yet!! come on eggs!

Hatching day finally arrived. 7 chicks out,7 more to go.

So cute. They are all mixes from my flock
how did things go this time dolf? let me kow if you figured it out now

I might join in on this hatch-a-long. Add me for now...

welcome!!! whatcha gonna hatch?

Day 12 and dealing with temp swings in my incubator all day. #thanksObama !
@ToddQ did you add heat sinks in the bator? or fill the entire bottom up with glass beads/fish tank stones or pebbles? wrap the bottom with covers or something? try putting it in a closet or a large box so that the temps stay more stable around it?

This is the weekend of the chicken train from Dothan, Ala (near Fla. line) to Lebanon, TN. There will be a stop in Tuscaloosa also. I am meeting @1Kluckychik in Huntsville, Ala. on 2/20 to swap eggs/chickens if anyone wants to jump on.
It's too bad I promised I wouldn't buy eggs this time. I'd love to have Isbars. I knew I shouldn't have made that promise.

They're doing good. Looks like they're going to make it through quarantine just fine. Next order of business is to hope Jet the AM doesn't come down with anything so she can be moved in with my FBCM pair. Then I just need to get NPIP tested again... and keep up with it this time.

So cute..you just gave me an idea for the windows. I have the same ones so can pain or write on yah!!

I used to raise guppies, plagues, and mollies(love the balloon dalmations, and the angel hi-fin aka sailfins)

When they are first born they can't swim right away and will sink to the bottom, within a couple hours to a couple days they will start to swim. They need a ton of cover! Most fish that can fit them in their mouths will eat them including their parents. However some parents will not. If you have an under-gravel filter it will almost certainly suck the babies hiding in the gravel up and kill them(this is an older kind) make sure you give them cover throughout the tank by the bottom and the top.

In the future you may want to look for a three way breeder little plastic thing with slats on two sides with a grate that goes in the bottom so the babies fall through and are protected from the mother. When she's done birthing you simply net her and put her out. If you want to give them the best chance possible a second tank is best with a bubbler and a finer gravel but be sure the water quality stays good. They also need a powderized food such as brine worms and or finely crushed fish food. If you have living plants they should be able to live on that as long as they can eat it.

HTH. Miss my livebearers, I currently have only a pair of goldfish that just won't quit. Lol I think they're like four or so years old
Thanks for all the tips. We do have a netted basket meant for the pregnant fish/babies but I didn't use it because it was the first time we have had a pregnant fish and we read moving her or separating her will cause too much stress. I expect some fry to be eaten, I know that happens.

Here is our set up, with hopefully enough hiding spots and lots of floating cover.

You can see the male and female platy in front of the skull in this pic

I just went to your coop page. I want one (or two) of each of them
droolin.gif
Going to try to get DH to sit down and look at that pallet coop. With all this hatching I have outgrown then newest 4 stall breeding pen that was finished in OCT.

Time for him to start again, right! Love, love, love the signs! Your kids got your creativity it seems. Loose Hens is just too cute. We are dividing the (X) garden right now to have 3 more sections for breeding pens and these pictures are just in time for coops to put in them. Thanks for the inspiration Sally!
