The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Ah, I misunderstood.  I thought it was Lili that pecked you, not the chick.  Chicks peck to establish dominance too.  Just tap her on the top of her head with your finger and it acts as a peck to correct her behavior.  It's worked for me.

I feed Flockraiser as well, and have never had cocci in my flock.  But we are in a dry climate too, cocci is more of an issue in a damp climate.

Thank you. By the way I do have cocci issues here. I live in Florida, very humid a mostly wet in summer. What is flockraiser? Is it expensive? I give corid the first week, keep them clean, change water daily, change bedding every 3 to 4 days and I still lose half of my babies. I also have flow pox which I have been able to get under control.
The flow pox starts showing at week 5, I have those with vitamins and electrolytes and I put iodine on the bumps when they show. I was losing half before now I have managed to not loose any to flow pox.
Wish I could say the same with cocci.

You can get flock raiser from tractor supply store.

do you mean like the shots? I tried to get them. It's less than $20 but the fee for delivery takes it to more than $150 each. Too much for me right now.
I found fowl pox vaccine, for 1000 birds and the needle for $11.00. Second day shipping for me would be $33.00.

There are other places to get the vaccine. Have you checked with vets or stores in your area? If there is a lot of fowl pox, then other flocks have it where you are.

Many feed and supply stores also have stuff you can buy. Not sure on the shots but I know a lot can be gotten there. Call your local large animal vets as well. They might have some.

Here in Florida, cocci can be a huge problem. I vaccinate for other things (avian encephalomyelitis, pox, and equine encephalitis - the enchephalies are also an issue in this area!) But not cocci. I feed chicks that are on wire unmedicated feed. I switch to medicated a week before they touch the ground and for a month after they have been put on the ground. All quail get medicated until around 4 weeks old. We have a somewhat local feed mill (3 hour round trip) that I buy all my feed from in bulk (2000+ lbs every other month) and they make a quail starter with cocci medicine (COBAN - monensin sodium) which is lucky for me. So far, I have not had to do any additional treatments with corid... EXCEPT with turkeys, as the Coban is not good for them, so they get unmedicated feed and corid (amprolium).

How many are you planning on setting?
Hoping to set 2-3 dozen, depending on what the ladies give me the week before :)
