I grew up calling them possums, but spelling it opossum. Shrug.
I did have one of those mind blowing / reality altering situations a few years ago, though. I walked into a grocery store one day and it was lit up like Valentine's Day, but it was October. I thought to myself, "What the heck?" Did I miss something? I asked someone and they said it was Sweetest Day. Um, what? "Sweet-est DAY?" (Say this with a sneer, I did.) Sweetest day? Really? OOooooooooook. I had recently moved to the area at the time. I thought, much like Tyme machines and bubblers, that this was a Wisconsin thang.
So, I did what anyone would naturally do. I called my Mom. Mom is pretty much my litmus test for "should I have known about this?" Mom tells me, oh yeah, Sweetest day, been around for years.
Well, huh.
(I still think they made it up a few years ago and the whole world is in on the conspiracy to try to convince me it actually is a holiday, regardless of how ridiculous it sounds, just to see if I'm gullible to believe it.)
Ill be putting my goose eggs in today. I don't expect them to hatch as I can never seem to hatch them. But will also be putting chicken eggs in march 5th. The eggs ill be putting in are my winning eggs that I won from the best hatch rate from the new years day hatch a long.![]()
Ooh! What breeds did you win?
Cool! I hope your eggs hatch!
Welcome to the hatch-a-long!
Not even a couple more? If there is a near-by farmer with a rooster you may be able to just get three or so eggs to try and hatch.![]()
Don't worry about it, just join in the conversation when-ever you have the time.It takes me a while to catch up also. I can't imagine what it would be like if I had a full time job though (which I know many people here do).![]()
I'm sorry to hear that. Do you want some eggs shipped to you? I'm willing to ship you a dozen or so for free if you want a barnyard mix to hatch. After all, I can't set that many myself, so might as well add as many of my eggs to the hatch-a-long as I can. LOL.Just let me know through PM.![]()
Again...I LOVE BYC FRIENDS!
Ok I have a broody Australorp who has been sitting on her golfballs for a week now, night and day. I also have 28 eggs in the incubator on day 8. I would like to place a few under my hen doring the last week, but need to figure out how and when to move her nest so it isn't 4 feet off the ground. I have had a lot of suggestions, but would like to hear what and when has worked best for the greatest chicken farmers in the world here at BYC.
That is the way to go!@ronott1 , I thought of you while I was collecting and setting Muscovy eggs! Small ones, big ones, oddly shaped ones, dirty ones... I set all of them!Of course I cleaned the really dirty ones.![]()
