The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Looks like one of my Silkies went broody on me.

I figured Nocturnal would be the first, but nope. It's Azura, the lighter colored girl. She laid an egg this morning and decided she wasn't getting off the nest.If she's serious about it I'll give her a few more eggs.

We had a huge micro burst roll through. I was in a room, and wondered what in the world was going on with the attick..it was creaking. At first I thought ... someone is walking around upstairs..wait! I am upstairs. Then I heard the wind! Wow, we've had them before, but never this hard, or fast.
DH went outside to check the roof, I went out and checked the chickens. They were just standing there..all accounted for. lol....the roof...not so funny.

Our roof now..and some shingles up in the apple tree.

DH called the ins. co. We need to get 3 different estimates. Then we will pay $1,000 deductible.
We have been talking about getting a new roof anyway. Good timing I guess.

I am sorry to hear about the roof!

I am happy that the chickens were all safe though.

Yikes! Hope it isn't too expensive to fix. We had some bad winds recently too. Did some damage to the roof of our house and barn but not enough for the insurance to cover it, of course.

Yeah, it was really a hard wind.

ron, those chickens were just walking very slowly and looking around.

Ok, what do you experts think? This egg isn't quite looking like the others. It's day 7. Is this a blood ring? There are still small veins in the egg, and this line doesn't go all the way around.

Looked at the egg again today and it has a moving chick inside! Yay! The air cell looks larger than some of the others, and it appears to have more space at the bottom than the rest, but chick is alive. Hope it does ok. Not sure why it's development is looking so funky.

Yay for life inside the egg!

Wow, glad everyone is okay!

It's usually the ones that just throw some eggs in a box on top of something warm and get like 60% to hatch that you hear about. I wasn't nearly that lucky.

Me too...... Screwed up dont even begin to describe it!! While you may hear about somebody's uncle's cousin's sister that was able to get 100% of the eggs to hatch with no idea what they were doing, I don't think it happens much. More often you hear the tales about how awful the first try was. :gig

True true..I had a guy ask me "Now how far along are they?" When he got hatching eggs from me. After responding with, "excuse me?" I quuckly recovered and told him it takes 21 days in an incubator. He's like oh okay they are at the beginning then. I was worried about him until he messaged me saying almost all the eggs hatched. Whew...I dont know how he managed it but I was glad to hear that knowing he had kids waiting.

It's amazing how many people honestly believe that eggs will spontaneously develop and hatch.
