The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Well finally The 12 eggs (wheaten/ blue wheaten amerucana eggs are hatching. 3 have hatched. Hopefully more in the morning. They are days late its day 23 But that room got awfully cold this month at night. for California 31 to 33 degrees. If 1/2 hatch I'll be happy.
Hatching in a 5 or 6 year old Brinsea 24 eco. In my opinion it has been a great little bator it has hatch 100s of chicks......
I know someone said there wheat amerucanas didn't hatch. These birds have been unfertile a lot. I have replaced rooster, fed special feed. Which I am going to do again this years.
Most the other chicken hatch pretty good.
The marans and olive eggers sometimes cannot get out of shell..
My daughter wants more olive eggs. that are dark goldist olive green . I usually raise them to teenagers she comes and gets them.
the legbars hatch very good
happy hatching
Best of luck with your hatching!

He's a big sweetie, too. So gentle and sweet with the girls. He keeps me company whenever I'm outside. And when I ask him if he's ready to go let the girls out he gets all excited and runs straight to the run, chattering away the whole time, and waits for me to open the gate.

Awww he sounds so sweet!!!!

That's true it  does depend on what a person has for a flock and their temperament. My EE assortment are a fair size...but they have stellar temperaments. I really lucked out when I got those.:love

Yeah, I definitely agree! My Barred Rock and Australorps can be a little mean but they're not too bad. But that's awesome! Now that I think about it, mine aren't really that small either and are actually bigger than one of the Orpingtons but they're definitely skinner and not as fat. I don't really go out to the pen that much anymore so all of mine are more skittish now :( I need to spend more time with them. I'm bad lately and don't even always go out every day :( but I'm getting better about it. But anyway, one of mine is particularly flighty and when I let them free range more which I don't that much now, she would take off flying across the yard for like no reason and the others would then follow lol but even though she is more skittish and lower on the pecking order, I can tell she wants to be my friend and tries to sneak over sometimes and/or interact more, she pays attention when I talk. I gotta work with all of them

Hey guys!!! I am back, and ready for this years breeding season. I will sadly not be able to participate in the hatching on Easter weekend because I have a state spring Poultry show to attend, and would not be home that weekend. So instead I am hatching before and after that weekend.

They swarm me trying to clean the snow off my boots. They make it hard to walk around sometimes.

I love this! I want a rooster like this, now tell me he doesn't crow often, or too loud.

It's weird, mine actually do crowd me when I wnter the run and whenever I go outside they pace and talk to me so maybe they aren't that skittish but they don't like to be picked up lol and the ones that used to when I was with them all the time don't now. I'm going to start spending more time with them again
