The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

So I'm freaking out over here. Alabama has put a freeze on poultry movement. Nothing in, nothing out, and no sales. Two flocks are being tested in North Alabama because it's suspected that they have AI. One is a commercial farm and the other is a backyard flock. It's a ways from me yet, but the idea that my flock could get infected is terrifying. This could also mean that I won't get my eggs next week and those are my ehal eggs. :hit

NOOOO!!!

Not old Cynthia, just full of great info

Quote: I hope so. Apparently my info is a few hours old and it was actually confirmed. I finally got ahold of the helpline only to be told they don't have an exact definition of what can and can't be moved. There may still be hope for my eggs.

Quote: The swap I was going to go to on the 25th has been canceled, so my backup isn't happening. I guess I now understand how everyone else that's been through this feels.

Fingers crossed for your eggs :fl The not knowing sure is a pain :(

If you do get the restrictions good bio security is paramount. Keep one pair of boots/shoes just for doing your birds. Before I would just take the dog for the walk or do the horses and then the chickens all in the same pair but once we got restrictions I switched back to just one pair for the birds. It's the wild birds that are the biggest carriers of AI unfortunately.

My free ranging has certainly ended until we're clear. I hate to do this to them, but the birds I kept when I sold my flock are some of my absolute favorites.
