My mix babies..and, you can see that there are three bantam cochins that hatched a few days before them in there. They are already as big as the bantams! Big babies.

That white in the middle, with the brown on it's head, and some
on it's body is huge!! It came from the largest egg in there, a
pretty light blue egg. Looking like a boy already.

Oh wait..how did this picture get in here? ;) This is Jack,
my almost 4 month old mini Golden Doodle. He knows that
he is not to come into this room when I am turning eggs or
getting babies out of the bator, so he waits in the doorway
in the cutest way ever!

He is going to be bigger than a mini..more like a middi!
Soo smart!

When I find a loud cheeper, I find them and give them a drop of poly vi sol baby drops without iron. It must work because they don't usually die on me.

Just hatched chicks have a three day period for their organs to start working. If there has been organ damage(more common with shipped chicks), then they will die close to the three day old age. If they make past there then the next problem is usually at about 6 weeks old when cocci can get them.

I gave her a few drops of straight Nutri Drench the night before she passed away. She looked fine, but she always seemed uncomfortable right from the start. The other 3 were running around, eating, drinking, and not cheeping. She just cheeped and cheeped. I think she just wasn't healthy to start with.

Anyway, on to happier things - I only have an itty bitty incubator, so I can only set 7 eggs for the HAL. Of course, I already have 14 set aside and I'll still be collecting up until tomorrow. I'm going to set them on Thursday rather than Saturday, because I'd prefer the chicks hatch a few days before Easter, rather than the day before. (KDOGG, did you get hatching eggs? Do you want some of mine?)

I'm probably going to set 4 FBCM and 3 OE eggs, but I won't know for sure until I candle and see what's looking the best.

Any tips on how to select the best eggs for hatching? I bought an egg cleaning solution, as I had an early quitter last time and I'm positive it died because there was a little smear of white poop on the egg. Should I wash all of the eggs in the solution, or just any that have a visible yuck? If I can select eggs without anything on them, they will get preferential treatment!
