The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

I wanted to drop in here for a moment. I've been lurking, ready and enjoying.
I had said (with the accuracy of a non-feathered being--) that "I was going to take a break from hatching" in April...So guess what has happened?
I have 3 clutches under 5 broodies that are set to hatch 5-2, 5-4 and 5-9. Right, that's not April, but the ladies are cutting it pretty close.
Jokes on me really.
This is the first time I've ever had broodies use "the buddy system" and sit on one clutch together!
I'm frantically planning and preparing to move nests bs ALL of them are in precarious places that just invites rolling out, falling out. So, I'm trying to decide when the best time would be to make the moves. From my past experience I know that once the eggs have hatched but before the chicks are mobile is ideal. That gives me 1/2 day window of opportunity. I'm too worried about upsetting the broodies at this late stage to move their nests now. (Although I had one broody, Antonia, move her own nest last week!).

I guess I should technically wait for the May hatch-along to start up...hoping someone takes that one on. (I would but I lack the needed experience to moderate and help with many complex issues. My time will come though.)

Just for the record...in case anyone wants to cheer along from home:
In The Silkie House are
The sisters: Peaches (yellow buff silkie) and Chula (blue w/ partridge hackle silkie) are sitting on ? # of eggs. Seems like lots but their beaks come in between me and counting.
And, Antonia (I don't knoiw what her color would be called. She has a jett black head and a light body with streaks of blues and blacks) is brooding in the drawer of a cabinet I re-purposed for this. These girls mom, Mima, I discovered yesterday has been adding eggs into Antonia's nest, lots of them. Nothing to do now but wait. I'm hoping Toni either stays on them to hatch them or that I have another broody to take them over.

Next door in The Condo:
Zuza (a tiny silkie) and Story (a huge buff Orpington) are brooding together. They started with a ton of eggs also but have selected down to 8. (I am hoping they are selecting the viable ones). In their clutch are silkieX silie eggs, PolishXpolish, and eggs from Polish Or blue silkie over buff orp, flowery hen, black australorp and black EE looking pullet!

Yup, that's me taking a break from hatching in April.

The babies are growing so fast! They are getting feathers and are very cute:

I am teaching them to use a vertical water fountain:

I had a moment of weakness at the feed store and bought this Royal Palm cross poult.
Weakness? It's a need! :D Very cute bird!
This feed store has turkeys, peafowl, call ducks, wood ducks, mandarin ducks, many fancy bantams, and regular egg laying breeds.
I'm so glad we don't have feed stores like that over here! :gig There would be no stopping me!
I bet! There is something about the bill on waterfowl babies that is so adorable. Have they imprinted on you?
I think so yes  They shout and I come a running!
Thanks Cynthia ;)
How sweet Banty :love

Someone mentioned Croad Langshan chickens and their eggs on another thread. Those are beautiful eggs as well!
Dark brown with a plum bloom.

I updated and corrected the above post so future readers will be aware the information is inaccurate.

For anyone who read this post earlier, I made a mistake in posting incorrect information and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this caused.

Rather than delete it, I thought correcting it for people who had already read it and for future readers would be the wiser choice.

Have we heard anything on the cute little Emu's yet?

I move mine the day after hatch. Even if some of the eggs haven't hatched, my broodies have stayed put once some have hatched.
