The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Well guys it's official! Baby coturnix quail number one has hatched with 7 more to go of I did this thing right. Wondering about the count though BC by my count they're a bit early. Like 2-3 days now that's fine except I didn't stop turning them until last night. BC by my count it was the correct day.

The incubator has been right on with a couple little cold spots but I've been rotating eggs. This is kind of a mystery to me.

So yeah anyways we went out to do chores(I checked them just to be sure before going out and saw nothing. We never even saw a pip) came in and there in the container I'm using to hatch the quail eggs in while still turning the chicken eggs the extra couple days. Sits the tiniest little chirping thing ever and I'm dieing to take it our for a snuggle. Its like a tiny hummingbird!!! Eeek!!!

Lol
OK I know I'm spazzing but this is just so cool. I forgot how much I missed hatching when everything goes smoothly like it should. I hope it continues. I really would like to get to the bottom of why my incubator still says there should be 3-4 more days though. Odd.

The pre-easter hatch is on!

For those with coturnix experience how many days on average do your quail take to hatch?

I was expecting them to take 18 days but they didn't according to my calculations and according to my incubator count down which I set on the same night they shouldn't be done.

I've had them hatch a day or two early before. Not really sure what's up with that.

So on day what?

Just double checked and it's been 15-16 days so not terrible but they aren't on day 18 either.

 Alrighty then!

:highfive:

well my 8yo daughter reports

"the rooster was fluffing up and jumping on one of the easter eggers, and she  just put her belly on the floor and didn't run away"

score!

:woot
That's quite a description :D

I'm on day 21 an nothing is happening the chicks are moving around a lot in side but no noise no hatching, temp is at 100 and humidity is at 60. is there something wrong?

21 days is just a guide so try not to worry :hugs
Moving around is good. They don't constantly chirp and do rest quite a bit so you may just be missing when they are chirping, unless you are constantly staring at the incubator? :D

I'm going to try to join if I can get this diy incubator together and working!

Welcome and good luck with your incubator build :fl

Congrats on your hatchers :clap They sure are cute and very small when they hatch :love
A slightly high temp during incubation could have caused an early hatch. Or a hot spot in the incubator. My cortunix hatched on day 17. Did you count the day you set them as day 1 or after a full 24 hours of incubation?

:weee How exciting!

Still air or does it have a fan? If your temps are low, they will hatch late.
