The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Is humidity supposed to be different for bantams? I have always read that on the last 3 days during lock down humidity should be 70%-80%

I do both .. LF and bantam, and I keep my temps and my humidity the same for both. Humidity during incubation, I do mid 30's. or it can even go down. I worry more about the humidity during lock down. During lock down, I do 58 to 63%

70 to 80% is more for ducks>>>doing ducks??

I look through my moms messages and I'm pretty sure she is getting this incubator!

Well guys it's official! Baby coturnix quail number one has hatched with 7 more to go of I did this thing right. Wondering about the count though BC by my count they're a bit early. Like 2-3 days now that's fine except I didn't stop turning them until last night. BC by my count it was the correct day.

The incubator has been right on with a couple little cold spots but I've been rotating eggs. This is kind of a mystery to me.

So yeah anyways we went out to do chores(I checked them just to be sure before going out and saw nothing. We never even saw a pip) came in and there in the container I'm using to hatch the quail eggs in while still turning the chicken eggs the extra couple days. Sits the tiniest little chirping thing ever and I'm dieing to take it our for a snuggle. Its like a tiny hummingbird!!! Eeek!!!

Lol
OK I know I'm spazzing but this is just so cool. I forgot how much I missed hatching when everything goes smoothly like it should. I hope it continues. I really would like to get to the bottom of why my incubator still says there should be 3-4 more days though. Odd.

The pre-easter hatch is on!

For those with coturnix experience how many days on average do your quail take to hatch?

I was expecting them to take 18 days but they didn't according to my calculations and according to my incubator count down which I set on the same night they shouldn't be done.

I've had them hatch a day or two early before. Not really sure what's up with that.

So on day what?

Just double checked and it's been 15-16 days so not terrible but they aren't on day 18 either.

:woot
Congrats on your hatchers :clap They sure are cute and very small when they hatch :love
A slightly high temp during incubation could have caused an early hatch. Or a hot spot in the incubator. My cortunix hatched on day 17. Did you count the day you set them as day 1 or after a full 24 hours of incubation?
:weee How exciting!

After a full 24 hours of incubation. So yesterday should have been day 16 for the little early bird.

Today is day 17 and we just had another one hatch so I guess that isn't too bad.

How long do you wait for them to hatch after pipping before worrying?

Should they be hatching faster than this?

I'm fairly certain I don't have any hot spots in the bator right now. Only cold spots.

We weren't expecting them to have hatched for 3 days so we hadn't upped the humidity yet. I'm a little worried they could be shrink wrapped. But I can't see and of course don't want to open the bator. The humidity was 36% when the first hatched quite nicely. It was a very clean hatch. Little number 2 looks great but I can't see inside the shell BC it flipped closed. Humidity is running 56% now we opened and upped the humidity last night.

Some hatches are faster then others and I'm afraid it's something you can't rush. Do you have a way of adding more water without opening the incubator? Higher than 56% would be better for the eggs. 65% plus is better for hatching with. Creating more surface area of water will increase the humidity level.

my chicken eggs are on day 22 and I m very anxious!!

Try not to panic, I know it's easier said than done :hugs
Any action from them?
