The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

I only have 10 eggs so far :(

8 polish and a couple from my Amber who is in with the cockerel also. Not expecting much from the Amber eggs as she is 4 years old now and her eggs are not as good quality as they once were.

On a good note I did get an email from a lady who bought chicks last year from me asking for chicks so fingers crossed if these Easter chicks hatch ok I should have a buyer straight away :D Which means I can set more eggs

if I had of known I could have let you have a Cochin Roo your choice of one or even both!

haha

Sadly i most likely couldn't have taken either since I'm guessing they're bantams and even then I have show quality and breeding quality birds only.

My closest uncle died this past weekend, the day I was going to start collecting eggs and in the blur I completely forgot about the HAL. Good thing there is a two day window, because I'm going to need it! Plus, his funeral is ON Saturday, and we are laying him to rest on our property so it is going to be a hectic day, I probably won't get around to setting eggs, especially considering his funeral is at 11.

Hopefully I'm setting 63 eggs for this HAL! I bought a thermometer/hygrometer today with a amazon gift card I won back in November. Also bought a candler (so tired of using cheap flashlights) and a heating pad to replace the one I stole from my mom for chicks. I still have $10 left! What to buy...
I'm very sorry for your loss.

Quote: Same here. the exception is if yolk gets on the eggs, I will wash them. Sometimes when I have a broody, an egg gets crushed and it gets on the other eggs.

I don't know if this is the place to post this, but I set 10 Pekin Duck eggs and 6 Red Bourbon Turkey eggs on the 18th.

Yep, this is the place.

OK, looking for some advice.

Despite the fact I've been planning this for about two months, I was just notified today that a tentative family vacation is in the works for Easter weekend. I want to be part of this very badly, but I'm trying to figure out how to make this work. Do you ever leave during lockdown? We would leave the day lockdown begins, so I'd put them in lockdown that morning and get back the day they should begin hatching. I'd have the petsitter check in on them, but is it foolish of me to even try juggling a vacation while chicks are in lockdown? Or am I being to protective about this whole thing? Thanks in advance.
You can set today and hopefully they would all be hatched before you go.

Quote: Yep!

First time hatcher question........ I order silkie eggs on ebay. They arrived yesterday. Will they be ok until Saturday??? I have them in an egg carton pointy side down in a room that is about 60-65 degrees. I'm so nervous and excited!!!!!

You can set as early as today for chicken eggs.

When all of your eggs are set for the Hatch-a-long, please post your total number of eggs set here in this thread.
This includes all types of fowl.

Please total your eggs, so BantyChooks doesn't have to count them all. There is plenty
of work involved just recording the numbers for this many people hatching at once.

If you do not set any eggs, please post that too, so we know not to contact you for your number of eggs set.

Pictures are great, as we all love seeing egg pictures..........but they are not mandatory.
Thank you!

I will be picking up 48 eggs on Saturday, and by then I will have a full 24 bantam eggs! This will be my largest hatch yet

One of the ladies I am getting eggs from has barnevelders, spitzhaubens, large fowl cochins, and brahmas! I am excited to add some new breeds to my flock.

The comb on him is huge! Never seen one with a comb that big!
I breed Black, Blue, and splashes, I don't think I'll ever delve into any other color
was told he was breed material I got him by chance last year not knowing he was a Roo was told he was a pullet but I was duped he came off of a farm in Florida. Now he is alone with no hens and I'm not a breeder nor fancier
