The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

I have an incubator question I have had to add water for about a week just to keep the humidity up to 35% now this morning I had to add water measured out for every 2 degrees to go up I have 4 temp/humidity in the incubators for safety one on each side. But now when I came the n from workout no all day it was down to 34 again but since I have been in here the last hour it has risen all by itself!! It's went from 34 to 37 and on one up to 40 even! All 4 has been within 2 % of each other any idea as to why that would happen?
Humidity must have gone up in your house.

8 eggs going into lockdown with a ~4/13 hatch date. 3 yolkers 1 quitter.

I hope you have a great hatch!

You have to take the rough with the smooth! :p
Nice and easy with a broody. My hens are not the broody type so when one did give it a whirl it was a fascinating experience for me :)
Wow that's a fantastic egg, purple is my favourite colour :D
:highfive:
:woot for the 14 left.
Did you put wax on to seal it?
Sounds like the shipped are doing well and :fl for the wonky air cell one.
The poor boy, good luck with the buff eggs.
It sounds good, any that quit are a disappointment though.
Oh no I'm sorry about this :(

That's a great candling result :thumbsup
Mmm thats a strange one with you hatching from them already :/

Sounds like your silver is a egg hoarder! :gig
:clap
Welcome :frow

Good luck with your quail hatch :fl

I now have three broody hens other than the one that is due next weekend. Two of the three fight the landscaping shovel to keep me away when I collect eggs. The other is still jumping off nest to get food. I'll lend some to you. :lau

Just took out 5, clears/blood rings. 29 left but one is iffy, not as developed as rest, and seen no movement, maybe late quiter IDK, I'll leave it in for now, marked it.
Air cells look good, was a bit worried. I ran 34% with no water last yr. No water I'm getting 23% right now. Fill one reservoir and I got 50%. Hmm.
Decided to leave it 23% and keep eye on air cells. So far so good.
One more week, dang this takes tooo looong...

Well i put all my eggs, chicken and duck, in the incubator for the hatch a long after doing a test hatch that turned out fabulous. The incubator held the temps really well for the test batch, if i kept an eye on the room temp. So when i put my next batch in i didn't hover over the bator like usual, i just checked the room temp regular. Got busy for the next few days and didn't check my temps in the bator. Sadly i realized when i checked again a duck egg was under the fan and apparently it was a bit tall for that spot because the lid hadn't set all the way down and my temps had been at 97 degrees for days. I figured things weren't going to go well but i fixed it and left them in for a while longer but, sadly, they did not recover from my stupidity so my hatch is a big fat goose egg for the EHAL.0 hatch

In other news, I have a hen gone broody, which is great, BUT all my other hens keep getting in the same nest with her and laying their eggs.

Nothing i do seems to keep them out. Every new egg she just tucks right under her. I was able to catch her off the nest only once and i marked all the eggs with a colored pencil. Well it has gotten to the point she can't cover all the eggs so she just covers her originals and whatever else she can. There are 2 other nest boxes and 2 portables i made from milk crates hoping to get them to lay somewhere else, but, NO!

They refuse. It's going to be interesting when they start hatching. I guess i will bring all the unhatched in and put them in my bator. I will use the egg carton method and turn them that way so if any hatch they wont get caught in my egg turner. Fun on the Farm, what can u do

Why not just block the nest box the broody is in off and open it up a once or twice a day for her to get food and water
