The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Thanks Penny, that means a lot to me.

Hey Cap, I can do that!:ya

Actually I think the count at the moment is something like 64.:idunnoBut over half are bantams so that means that the actual chicken math count is somewhere like 20 bantams and 19 standards. The new chicks don't count as they are babies.
Bantams only count as half a chicken.

My quail hutch is almost done!

You may notice the egg collector on the front that the eggs will roll into. Inside is the loft for their sand bath. They can climb up the ramp, i heard they like that.

Go Edna Mae. I had a hen do that for me a week and a half ago. First time broody. I gave her ceramic eggs to sit on and she was dedicated to them for 3 days so I gave her 5 of my little BBR girls' eggs. She set on them for two days and then walked away from them. Luckily I was keeping an eye on here so I was able to rescue the eggs.

They are the ones in my incubator now. First candling showed 4 actively developing. One dud. These two little girls that gave me the eggs are little BBR pullets that I got from Orschelns last year when I had a single chick hatch late from a broody hatch and needed a couple of babies to keep him company. The hatchling didn't survive but the two BBR girls are two of my favorite hens, Princess Faith and Princess Hope are their names and they are just tiny little dolls so keeping fingers crossed that I get good babies from them and my bantam/cochin cross boys.

need to fix what I messed up turner comes with it I loose things in my brain now
and was nervous when I got it kinda fool proof? was pushing buttons ended up moving the temp way up it read celcius now cannot get it back down
I'm having fun with the 56 incubator I bought off eBay, also. They have me checking the wire connections to the display unit.

Well, y'know there is the fact that I said I would only bring home 6 chicks at the most. Brought home 5 and left two only because I highly suspected they were buff Cochins and my OEGB roosters don't need another punching bag nor do I need a broody machine. Plus I don't need feather legged birds that are forever wearing Missouri Gumbo Mud boots that I'm having to chip and trim off.

I showed a great deal of self control....that could be a plus in my favor also.
microchick resisted the temptation! Way to go.

Hi ya micro.. :frow

@thudson, try not to stress out too much. If a hen can do it, so can you, and if you are looking at my broodies, heck, you can probably do a better job than they do as mine tend to have a lot of chicks die in the egg. I told my husband today before grabbing my purse and driving 21 miles to Orscheln's that I'd rather my hens NOT go broody. I'd rather hatch them myself in the incubator and not have to worry about what the hen is or isn't doing right. For me broody hatching is more stressful. Don't worry, you will do fine. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Somebody will come up with an answer for you.

Ron, you really want me to get a new one ripped in me, don't you?:lau I have 4 in the incubator, just brought home 5. Unfortunately, DH can count and knows trigonometry. I'm sure he would notice if suddenly the four "in case somebody goes broody" bantam eggs sitting on the counter top suddenly transported themselves to the incubator sitting on the opposite end of the counter.....no wait. That could work. He knows I'm a Star Trek fan, I could tell him that they were victims of a transporter accident!
Thank you again! I vote for transporter accident, it could work!:lau

Okay....so I'm not at all strong enough to resist the temptation of the Easter Hatchalong. I just ordered some eggs to be delivered in time to set on Thursday (within the 2 day leeway). I have a friend with a Sportsman that will be incubating the eggs for me. If I have a broody (or broodies) that decides to sit before hatch day, I'll move eggs.

I am a Easter Hatchaholic and I admit it.
