Moisture on the glass means take a plug out right?

take the plugs and toss them in the trash!

Crisis averted I hope. I found a chick stone cold lifeless on the brooder floor. Sometime last night power went out again. He must have lost his way from the brooder plate. All other chicks were fine.
So when I took him out figuring I had to toss him he moved with the warmth of my hand.

So as the cleaned incubator warmed up I kept him warm. At this point he’s on his feet resting in the incubator. Will put him back in brooder with the rest in couple hours. If he recovers.

we had similar situations year before last with brand new broody chicks that wandered/fell out of the nest boxes and could walk or just couldn't find their way back. We had 2-3 this happened with from multiple hatches. They all amazingly recovered completely and became great healthy birds.

The plugs are for ventilation as hatching chicks need more oxygen not for humidity or temp regulation. I never use my plugs.

If you choose to use your plugs they should absolutely be removed before lockdown.

Moisture on the window(s) means the humidity is too high and needs to be lowered. Humidity that's too high can cause hatching problems even chick death.

They sure are tough little critters. I’ve seen dead chicks before and I surely though this one was a casualty.

Yeah ours were stiff like rigor.

It just so happened that time our incubator was running when DH2B found the first one(the nest boxes were on the floor for the hatch btw) it was still wet and had stumbled out.

He thought it may have tried to breathe when he picked it up but wasn't sure. I caught him hovering over the incubator watching. It was almost an hour before it was standing in the incubator. He just kept apologizing for bringing this dead baby in and was about to give up when it took a huge breath. I told him to turn around and look and the rest is history. Now if we find a chick cold and seemingly lifeless but it has no obvious cause of death we try rewarming it. Of course some you can just know they're gone.

Thankfully other than that one year(5 broodies hatched in 2-3 weeks) we haven't had trouble like that.
